Is this life all there is?

Is this life all there is?  Yesterday, it was work, eat, drink, and be merryBuy that, buy those-- and then sleep Today, it’s more work, more eat, more drink, and be merrierBuy more of that, buy more of those—then sleep again Tomorrow, it’ll be much more work, eat, drink and be the happiestBuy all of that; buy all of those— then have more sleep Is all this life has to offer to us?Is this why we are here on this world,To satisfy our insatiable selves? If this is the only thing, we haveIn life—then something is veryWrong in our own existence. Is this not all emptinessAs if everything hangs in the airAnd striving after the wind. Then, let’s all wake up my dear friends And look around—reflect and meditate,Now, we know: life’s nothing sans Jehovah God in our lives. --by wiliej

Meaning of life

Your poem queries life and provokes the mind to look for answers. I think that life becomes meaningful from what we put into it. We must define our existence , without this, it is meaningless. Please can you explain what 'sans' in front of Jehovah means. In all, it is a good poem and well written. Cheers.

It's possible to have a meaningful life today

Dear Mr. Reflexion' First of all, I would like to thank you for your very encouraging comment.Well, I used the word sans(without)before the word Jehovah just to emphasize that the absence of God in our lives makes our very existence meaningless. Many people are living for money and for what it can buy. Many others live to make a name for themselves. At Ecclesiates 7:12, the Bible says " Wisdom is for a protection the same as money for a protection; but the advantage of knowledge is that wisdom itself preserves alive its owners. Yes , it's true that money has a place in our lives but it's not everything. We need money to live, especially if we have the resposibility to provide for our families. Jesus said " even when a person has an abundance his life does not result from the things he posseses" ( Luke 12:13-21)."Happy are those conscious of their spiritual need, since the kingdom of the heavens belongs to them," so true happiness does not depend on wealth, fame, life's accomplishments but rather it depends upon satisfying our spiritual need-- the need to worship Jehovah God--our Creator (Rev.4:11)
