Berlin Revisited

Berlin Revisited

A moonless night, a stealthy flight
Fear haunting ev'ry step
A heaving chest, no time to rest
Too little have they slept

A crunch of snow, a flashlight's glow
They lie upon the ground
Steps go by, a silent sigh
From lips taut in a frown

A silent creep, the way so steep
Death easy for them to find
A guard ahead, they freeze in dread
But else is on his mind

A fence to climb, there is no time
For worry anymore
The other side, a clearing wide
They sprint for freedom's shore

The guns ablaze, a deadly haze
Lead flying all around
They cry in pain, but rise again
To die upon free ground

LMAO, reminds me of Sha-ne-ne! Sorry Jess, but I did like Reagan. I like you more though! LOL (feel better?) Mark

Thanks Mark

Jess is gonna hang her head at me too. I liked Reagan. We're seeing his trickle down economics in the other direction now. It's called trickle up economics. The democraps want everything to trickle up to their pockets and our so called repubicans (no mis-spellings) aren't much better right now. Rett: "Life is like a beach. You loved that senile old fool?

OMG, you guys really need to read some Noam Chomsky, Ursula K. LeGuin and think about the politics of disenranchisement. Trickle down has always ben a total lie and means stealing up. Yeah, I'm back, and when the dust clears I will understand you better and vice-versa, I hope. cheers, Jess

OMG JessElf

You need to read some history. At least he restored respectability to the US after that damn fool Jimmy Carter damn near ruined the whole country. I have never liked everything about any president, but there were some damn good things Reagan did and if you don't believe he was instrumental, along with Gorbachev, in bringing down the wall, you are either uninformed or a total fool and I honestly don't think you are either. A couple things that I noticed: flashlights should be in the possessive -> flashlights' (multiple ones) and the line "But else is on his mind" I get what the line is supposed to mean, but it just sounds out of place. Maybe "but there's something else on his mind." or "but other things are on his mind." Just a couple thoughts. Otherwise, though, you write well about the subject of how some people will sacrifice anything for freedom. Bravo, friend. ~Jess ---------------------------------------------------- "Just 'cause you have one, doesn't mean you need to be one....."

Thanks Jess

I am sorry I spoiled my image with you. *G* I used to be a Liberal but Jimmy Carter cured me. Then I was a conservative democrat and there is no longer any such animal, so now I am just a conservative and there aren't many of those left. Will correct said errors ASAP. Sorry, "But else" has to stay *S* poetic license don't ya know. Rett: "Life is like a beach. Salty, gritty, somewhat fishy and at other times, downright crabby!" Rett 2008.

Love the poem

I have found it often that I can despise the politics and love the poem, I am a slut for good writing. Here I find no political problem, even a pacifist like me would die for freedom, and have, in my younger days, put myself in the firing line. It is more difficult now, there are certainly ASIO and CIA files on me. Not paranoia, knowledge of surveillance and information systems. I will never, ever give up my belief in our own improvement through knowledge and learning rather than religion. JessK addressed the language issues. cheers, Jess

That is a distinct possibility

After all, you are a very shady character you know. *L* Thanks for the comments on the poem Jess, I truly do appreciate it. I just wanted to remind people of past stupidities. Religion has caused a lot of problems, mainly because corrupt people use it to their advantage. That is why, even though I believe in God, I don't believe in churches. Growing up in the church and my father becoming a part time preacher I have seen all the politics involved in organized religion. Respectfully, Rett: "Life is like a beach. Berlin Revisited

Rett, this was written very well, and kept me on the edge of my computer chair! I stumbled on one line, and It could be me, but line 12 I paused a little "But else on his mind" This could be just me. Anyway nicely done~

Dang it

I have made a couple of changes and did not see the missing word until just this minute! *shakes head*. I think my other poem was more apt than I realized. I must be getting senile. Thanks Janice, Jess and whoever else it was than mentioned what I failed to see. *bending over* Go ahead and kick me. I missed it at least 3-4 times that I know of! Rett: "Life is like a beach.
