Hurricane

Hurricane

There's storm clouds on the horizon
Lightning over the bay
The waves pounding the shoreline
No ships will sail today

Thunder building anger
Booming from the sky
Wind blowing from tomorrow
Sings its keening cry

Ships huddled in terror
Noses to the wind
Sailors praying to their Gods
Timbers creak and bend

On shore windows shuttered
Locks upon the door
Fear filled eyes stare at nothing
Rain continues to pour

Then comes the sudden quietening
The wind is dying down
But only for precious minutes
Before it spins around

Thanks Chrys, on a few minute break from carrying stuff in.

plants, bikes, loose stuff, tying down what I can't move etc.. Thanks for reading and commenting. That one hit me on one of my breaks from working on stuff today. I really haven't had time to do a good editing job. Please excuse the roughness. Respectfully, Rett: "On life; Ah such a wondrous thing, beauty and love to behold and experience! On death; I can wait to see..." Rett 2008.

R~Dawg

Hope you stay safe during the storm. Your poem portrays the realities of the storm very well. i liked how it has a nice easygoing flow to it. Well done! ~Biscuit ~Jess ---------------------------------------------------- "Maybe in your vision, you've seen how omniscient is slightly less than divine. Thank you biscuit,

I appreciate it. All I am doing now is waiting. Supposed to be here in the morning. Rett: "On life; Ah such a wondrous thing, beauty and love to behold and experience! On death; I can wait to see..." Rett 2008.

A fly ...

flits through brain, then out to open sky. Grab it/her/him while you can, she'll lightning-spark your hurricanish poetry. I do hope your storm falls gentle on your head. My favorite pieces of the ones I put together strike---sometimes boldly, other times cotton-candy hard/soft---from who knows where. so much fun (too much fun) for anyone. Thanx, Chuck PS: I might add that besides being therapeutic, the writing of verse keeps us older folk at least a little bit sharper than the younger ones expect of us. Or so I think.

I think you are right Chuck

I have poems or ideas for poem or blinding flash almost fully materialized poems hit at the oddest times. As you said it is not only therapeutic but helps to keep us sharper than the "younguns" think. *G* Another thing I always seem to notice is when you are young (I was the same) love and love poems were the take all be all, then as I got older I wanted to write about other things and now I write about almost anything. Thank you for reading and for your astute observations. I appreciate it. Respectfully, Rett: "On life; Ah such a wondrous thing, beauty and love to behold and experience! Dear Rett

Your rhyming and storytelling are stunning. I could see it and hear it all. I cannot pick favorite lines as they all stick with me in a whispered echo... magnificent! Always, Cat

Many thanks Cat

I was looking at my poems trying to find examples of helpful critique for Kelsey and found several that weren't marked members only. That's why it showed up as revised. Glad you liked it though. *S* Respectfully, Rett: “Anyone who sacrifices liberty for security deserves neither.” Benjamin Franklin

WoW Rett

This packs a punch. I can’t begin to imagine being anywhere near such a Hurricane let alone being in the midst of one, and surviving to see the death and destruction left behind. I think you should’ve deleted this and reposted it as a new post, as it's such an old one. Most members here now, as there are so many new people since this was posted, would have had the realism of it to appreciate it. As you know an updated post doesn’t always get read again that much.
