Summer is Here

Summer is here it seems
A time for skin, lots of shorts
no jeans.

Tee shirts, tube, and tank tops
painted toes show through flip-flops.

Ice cream, sunscreen,
hanging on the spot
is a favorite thing.

Humid, hot blazing sun
drop tops and dubs spinning.

cruising the park,
scoping the one
names and numbers passed.

Heads turn,
with all that sass.

Jokes and smokes
balls bouncing,
ladies strolling, and fellows pouncing.

Systems blowing,
the bass is pounding.

Anita Baker is flowing
the park is hot,
there's nobody clowning.

Summer has arrived
chill the glasses and pour the tanqueray.

The cha-cha slide is here to stay.

I liked this....

it could use something though, feels a little un-finished. I would run spell check too. Bass is pounding -not base is...ect-

Yes jumpy

I heard a jumpy beat as it came into my mind. I hoped the reader could feel the same kind of bounce. Thank you. As for Tanqueray, it is a britsh gin. I dont drink anymore, but in my younger years it was fabulous. No I didn't have a problem with it. I knew others who did however, so I stopped drinknig as a kind of9 look at me ,you can too. It didn't work for them though. Dana

I loved this and you captured it well. I wanted to dance and everyone knows us white boys can't dance or is that jump? *LOL* I used to "cut a rug" in my younger days when I had good knees. Loved a good beat, a wailing sax, stroll, foxtrot, mashed potato, jerk, swim, twist, cha cha, rumba and a really good partner at a two step. The only real regret I have is that I could never waltz well and watching two people in tune on a waltz was like seeing someone floating on the dance floor. Ahh well live goes on. I really enjoyed reading this. It brought back memories of youth and scoping the gals etc... Thank you. Respectfully, Rett: "Life is like a beach. Mmmmm

Tanqueray and tonic, or Tanqueray and iced tea.... good stuff. The only suggestion that I have is to substitute something else in for "dubs" as not everyone is going to know that dubs = 22" rims on a car. Other than that, you captured the light-heartedness, and smoothness of summer. Nice! ps: A belated welcome to the site. Eventually I'll get to everybody! All, y'all are sneaking in faster than lightning, and I can't keep up! ~Jess ---------------------------------------------------- "Just 'cause you have one, doesn't mean you need to be one....."

Thanks

Thanks for the welcome. I am loving it here. About the rims I wondered if I should, to tell the truth I'm not that cool about it. I hear the kids talking and wrote the poem one day after seeing and "hearing" a car go down my street. I didn't knew of a word that had the same bounce to the work. Thanks for the read. The Tanqueray I do know about.(lol) I like mine with papaya nice and cold. Thanks Dana

*LOL*

That is like me in the 70's the first time I heard the term "Duece and a quarter" I had no clue they were referring to a Buick Electra 225. Rett: "Life is like a beach. Salty, gritty, somewhat fishy and at other times, downright crabby!" Rett 2008.

And see, I would have assumed that they were talking about $2.25 (laughs) (sorry to hijack your page) ~Jess ---------------------------------------------------- "Just 'cause you have one, doesn't mean you need to be one....."
