The Working Man

The Working Man

He digs ditches and paves your roads
Builds your houses and carries loads
Works the fields and cuts your grass
Works oil rigs and repairs your glass

He raises cattle and supplies your meat
Keeps you cool and cleans the street
Builds your parks and keeps them clean
Repairs your car when it's running mean

Builds your fence and paints your home
Works the factories and lays your stone
Picks up the garbage you put out
And he’s the man you joke about

He’s the plumber that fixes your pipes
The one you call when trouble strikes
Installs the cable where you’re at
Tows your car or fixes your flat

Restores your electricity when it’s out
Picks up dead animals while he's about
Sprays for mosquitoes county-wide
He's the man you always deride

You call him a stupid, a bigoted fool
Fat and lazy while you're so cool
But you still like his barbeque
Who's the bigot, him or you?

Working hard from light ‘til night
To make sure everything is right
Neck burned bright in the broiling sun
The southern worker, the "Redneck" one!

Instead of making him out a fool
Stand up by your barstool
Raise a glass and sound a cheer
To the "Redneck" who delivers your beer!

Working Man

Never be ashamed of what you do for a living, redneck or otherwise. We all have a job to do and boy did you slam this garbage truck up someone's car rearend! Thank You Rett

Yep, my point exactly

I was using redneck in the "original" meaning which is a member of the southern working class whose necks were redened by the sun and now is used as derogatory although Jeff Foxworthy helped alleviate a little of that. Thanks Janice. Respectfully, Rett: "On life; Ah such a wondrous thing, beauty and love to behold and experience! On death; I can wait to see..." Rett 2008.

God bless rednecks

They're what make this country go 'round. :~) Love the lighthouse picture, Rett, that's way cool! ~Jess ---------------------------------------------------- "Maybe in your vision, you've seen how omniscient is slightly less than divine. Hey mark

Don't feel left out my friend. As an ex-redneck you qualify. *LOL* Besides, if you get right down to it, you look everywhere and you see that same person with their neck burned red from working outdoors in the summer, even up there in Yankee land. *teasing about the yankee stuff* Respectfully, Rett: "On life; Ah such a wondrous thing, beauty and love to behold and experience! On death; I can wait to see..." Rett 2008.

Thanks Irene

When I wrote this I figured it was high time they got credit for their work to offset some of the jokes and sneers some of the more well to do people make of them. Those people couldn't go very far without the working man who does everything else. I also have one that praises the working woman. Very glad you enjoyed it and Three cheers for your brother!
