Hell's Border

I am grief,

the saddening burden

that holds

a hopeful heart hostage,

on the rigid plane

of despair.

Within my realm

of distress

resides the capitol

of difficulty and hardship,

where regret and denunciation

stroll hand in hand weeping.

My neighborhood

is in the county of sorrow

on the street of heartache,

Where all lament

mourning what they have lost.

Anguish and suffering

are my two companions

who visit on occasion

as unwelcome guests,

we are the necessary evil

to all humanity.

Holy cow Cat !

This is so close to dispair - you did it ! You might consider looking at we are as they are ?? Or maybe simply - the necessary evil ... Mark

That is too close for comfort. You did an excellent job of making it hit home. I would say cheer up, but I know better. I hope you get to feeling better. Well done. Respectfully, Rett: "This way to the Great Egress" P.T. Barnum

Sorry if my poem took you to an unpleasant place. Sometimes those unhappy moments wake us up to the real happiness that we have and make it that much more enjoyable. Always, Cat

Cat,sometimes the most unpleasant feelings make for the greatest poetry nicely written. The title was awesome!

Very true... I've noticed that myself, as my tastes tend to run towards the darker poetry. Thanks! Always, Cat

neato!

this is a profound poem (and i don't toss that word around). this reminds me very much of the Dalai Lama's teachings on human life, particularly the first six lines. we'd all be better off if we took heed to poems and art like this, which it make it real clear that some "necessary evils" are simply part of human life, not to be blamed on some other person or nation. great job here.

You are so right. In this

You are so right. In this day and age our society tends to want to lay blame and point the finger anywhere except at ourselves. May all your karma be good! Always, Cat

Well written

There must be a balance, good and evil... no matter how much we wish otherwise. I don't think we are all ready for paradise just yet. Many have visited the place in your poem. Your poem seems the city opposite paradise. Some of us might get complacent and creativity might die if we didn't visit that place. I think it flows well. I agree with the comment by Mark. "They", truly are. Thanks for this one. Dana

Dear Cat:

Yes, the law of oppossites is always working, for good or for evil. In the end, I believe that everything works out to increase our experience. And where there is experience, there must be wisdom, sooner or later. I like your poem! Once more you have touched the universal human cords with great skill. Sincerely, Hugo

Dear Hugo

Once again your instincts are impeccable and you see right through my message. evil is the other side of the coin of good as sorrow is the other side of joy. Thank you for reading and for your in-depth response, it is always appreciated, as are you. Always, Cat
