A Summer's Day
It's a beautiful summer day...
perfect peacock-blue skies
a white cloud or two just for punctuation
neighborhood children play
parents with short tempers yell and shout
sadly
children mostly live what they learn...
yesterday an officer was shot in the line of duty
first one ever in Twinsburg, Ohio
a teenager passes by a smiling child...
excited to show him something
or another...
"that's neat, little brother." he says,
and goes on his way...
I wonder how many summers are like clouds
and what tales will be passed
to the next generation....
I wonder if we will have forgotten this summer..
when we might have made a difference.
perfect peacock-blue skies
a white cloud or two just for punctuation
neighborhood children play
parents with short tempers yell and shout
sadly
children mostly live what they learn...
yesterday an officer was shot in the line of duty
first one ever in Twinsburg, Ohio
a teenager passes by a smiling child...
excited to show him something
or another...
"that's neat, little brother." he says,
and goes on his way...
I wonder how many summers are like clouds
and what tales will be passed
to the next generation....
I wonder if we will have forgotten this summer..
when we might have made a difference.
