GREY GOATEE
GREY GOATEE
My grey goatee, the hair on my chin Is a beard of controversy What argument qualifies me to live? If I keep or cut it off my face What seminar of laughter And workshop of gossips are demanded On an issue as simple as A goatee beard on a man’s chin The children would sing as I pass them by “Man goatee, man goatee. He is here again” Some men recoil at the very sight of me Others know not what to do with meThey are haunted by weird fear of the unknown
Of cults, and my seeing involvement in secret societies
As they would say,” Don’t talk to me With that squirrel hair on your chin” That funny looking goatee of yours A scare crow, an ugly sign post And a repulsive untidy mask For frightful children and women Take a second look at yourself You will run from what you see Your conical chin and forehead, Long ago, traded their rightful places Your chin is better without a beard That brings out the very “goat” in you My grey goatee beard as you can see Has become a talk show for all Of speculations and make-up stories On what manner of man I must be To keep a pointed goatee beard A beard of shades in length and hues The grey goatee reinforces my presenceAmongst bottle shaven and beardless chin of men
Are you a fascist, a socialist, a psychotic case
A religious guru or a university don? There are unending stressful “goatee” questions
With mounting pressure to cut it off my face
Though these shades of pointed goatee beard Truly does nobody any harm at all The curious “busy body” would also say He must keep his beard for a reason That only his wife may know Otherwise she would cut it off at night While snoring loud in his sleep I cannot bear to look at him And nothing will stop me form robbingThis ‘Samson’ of powers residing in the hair
Faceless multitude of concerned citizenMy grey goatee is not for beauty or pageant show
Nor a matter of public opinion It is just what I want to be A man with a grey goatee beard No thanks for petty worriesThat will never increase my pocket of coins.
Just let me be…— t. reflexion, Jul 15, 2008
