The Dance

The Dance

Upon the tangled strings of life
We dance our little dance.
Now you see us, now you don't,
We're gone with just a glance.

Like the dancing candle flame
Casting shadows on the wall,
We flicker in and out of sight,
Never seen at all.

Like motes of dust in sunlight,
A streaming swirling mist,
We dart around each other,
Two lovers never kissed.

Upon the tangled strings of life
I pierce her with my glance.
Now you see us, now you don't,
As fate and I must dance.

Extinguish all your candles,
Draw window blinds so tight,
Now you see us, now you don't,
Two wraiths of eerie light.

So when the dance has ended
And the bell has rung,
Fate and I begin to waltz
To songs that were never sung...

How Lovely!

...at first I thought it's about fire flies...is it? but "fate" kept masking the scene....but it's good...it gives it a mysterious touch! and the style is excellent! very nice...worth several several reads...thank you Rett

Bingo!

You got it in one. It is fireflies or as a lot of us down south call them "lightning bugs". I was likening them to the way we dance around the things in life that seem fated to be. Thank you for reading and I am very pleased you enjoyed it. Thank you for taking the time to read and comment. Rett: "At twenty, if you are not a Liberal, you have no heart. I hate it when I'm right (smile)

You captured the essence of fire flies v.well in this one...I think it's one of the best poems I read about fire flies...I read it again today...truly enjoyable!

I enjoyed it

epecially its treatment of love in insubstantial organic light. Just one suggestion, Two lovers who’ve never kissed. Two lovers never kissed. Never seen love as fate or destiny myself, always about pheronomes and pragmatism. Sad but true. I am a carnal poet. cheers, Jess

Thank you very much. Dance till your feet are sore and your wings will no longer lift you to the sky! Rett: "At twenty, if you are not a Liberal, you have no heart. At Thirty, if you are not a Conservative, you have no brain." Winston Churchill
