UYIO NDOBO
UYIO NDOBO
In an attempt to enter into silence and contemplate
Upon Divine love and brotherhood of man
And experience harmony and peace profound
Needed to advance the social estate of man
I hear echoes of voices rumbling in a distance
Voices yelling in different pitches and tones
Some wailing in angry disagreement
Voices of suffering children deprived of their inheritance
And cries of dying men from wanton acts of violence
I also hear laughter of pleasant surprises
And of things cherished and longed for
Within our reach if only we can pause and think
On the import of messages we receive from the voices we hear
In this state of soundless silence, I hear in startled bewilderment
Voices needed to be heard but whose mouths can not talk
Mouths of spirit men and women who once trod the earth
Through mankind’s journey in the great sea of humanity
They talk of man’s redemption hanging in a balance
I listen beyond the spheres of sounds
Through the columns of soundless silence
Through which the reverberating voices echoed
I hear the wind blowing through time linking two worlds of realities
With messages of hope in my journey deeper into self
How can a state of soundlessness rumble as uyom ndobo
And engulf my being with penetrating silence
I turn to the guardian of conscience, the still small voice
Which I call uyio ndobo, capable of interpreting all realities
For answers to the compelling messages in the voices I hear
Do not ask for answers, it is not for you to know, I was told
The voices you hear are notes for you to take, not as poems
Lest you be restricted by scholarly rhythm and rhymes,
For the voices you hear are but reflections of thought
And with messages from the great beyond
