The Despise

The Despise

Better days I once knew
my youthful energy has long gone
taxing times are here to stay
I stroll in the shoes of the afflicted one

The sun has raised on my calamity days
the kids, now grown; walk ahead
despising their once vibrant mother
looking back with reluctant faces

The sun has set on my sunny years
when I walked and run, just as I please
with mother’s walker I need help
to walk these courthouse steps

Broken smiles I wear with dignity
looking ahead at my reality
in God I trust my peace and comfort
the day of distress is currently upon me

Oh my

This makes me want to cry. I can understand a bit of what it is like Barbara. I am not sure exactly what to say except for May God bless you and keep you in his arms. Respecfully, Rett: "At twenty, if you are not a Liberal, you have no heart. At Thirty, if you are not a Conservative, you have no brain." Winston Churchill

Why "The Despise"?

raising children so they'd become independent successful beings is one of the most difficult tasks on earth...and they should thank you for all you've done...I think you should be "The Pride" to them. Very well expressed touching poem!

The Pride

Smiles:) Barbara I like that title, being the pride to them is wonderful, unfortunately it does not fit this piece. Children have their own dreams and being weighed down with a sick mother is not what they imagine. A different world today. Thanks for your special comment.
