Warrior's Death Song

Warrior's Death Song

Father of all things,
You who presides over this life,
I commend myself to you.
I challenge this strife!
I come not in beggars stance,
But proud, as befits a warrior!
My head is high, unbowed.
I have fought well,
Many enemies have fallen!
My knife and spear have drank deep!
I come to you in honor,
I do not seek your pity, but
I greet you as befits a man.
I acknowledge your greatness,
But I bend not my knee in supplication.
Greetings Great Father,
I am home from the battle!

Something about this sounds

Something about this sounds like it was translated from another language; was it, or did you mean for it to sound that way? It is classic and simple, and contains a nobility that, I sadly think, doesn't exist anymore. Violence for noble purpose is an anachronism in our modern day--violence is only done out of lust and/or malice now, it seems to me. True warriors have all moved on..... Alobar (Just my two cents, spend them on gum if you wish.)

It is a glimpse at a very small part of my heritage. The Native American Warrior. You are right, this type of nobility doesn't exist much anymore. We have become a nation of whiners for the most part, expecting Uncle Sam to care for us from cradle to grave and we don't take responsibility for our own selves anymore. It's funny, just before Pearl Harbor the Japanese Empire was thinking of invading the USA and Yamamoto, who was educated at Harvard, talked them out of it saying that "the American citizens had guns and would not be afraid to use them. They are self reliant and there would be guns behind every blade of grass". Sadly, the American people no longer have that self reliance or the courage to act in their own interests. Ah well.. Thank you so much for reading and commenting. It was a very astute observation. Rett: "At twenty, if you are not a Liberal, you have no heart.
