Some folks want footnotes
with my poems
points of reference
declarations of knowledge
stored in some ruined building,
I can only glance
backward
over my left shoulder
drag my broken wings
across these poems to myself
drown out the cry
of Kafka walking on insect feet,
mandibles chewing my Soul
like blades of grass.

METAMORPHOSIS

of Kafka walking on insect feet, mandibles chewing my Soul like blades of grass. These lines are Kafkaesque. Two people's minds always intrigue me: Kafka and Camus. Take care ... Leonard

Hey there! Great write!

"declarations of knowledge stored in some ruined building" reminds me of the annoying requirement of college profs to claim knowledge only if it comes from an else, not self ... which I find insulting, as if I can't have a thought original with me. Or if it should ever reach (heaven forbid!) a level of original, it can't qualify for inclusion in a term paper till I find external source(s) for it. "drag my broken wings across these poems to myself" zings home to me the truth that all poems(?) I write are to myself. How right it is that a poet reveals much, much more about self within the write than about the otherwise usually overt/claimed subject matter of the piece. Thanx much. This well-formed work of art finds its mark. Chuck

I didn't mean to criticise or to showcase knowledge of any kind

I forgot to mention that I quoted those lines because I like them very much and because they remind me of the mood Kafka evokes in his writing. You may sound like someone but still be original. I have no doubt of the originality of this piece. I love it. Yours in peace .... Leonard

Much of my

Much of my *self-incrimination/victimization) stems from not having a degree. I would love to have been a Prof of my own brand of *philosophy* teaching at an ivy-league college (I loved Princeton when I lived in NJ). Sometimes I wonder if I would have achieved my goal; I wonder if it would have led me to be a *Poet*, going anywhere I damned well please in thought and feelings in words that are *original* replicas of me. ;-) ~Anna

Hello

With this poem, you have evoked an interest in Kafka in me. I will have to give him a good "look see." Thanks for this. Always, Cat

Can some one help me here?

Can some one help me here? I remember a German subtitled movie either with Liam Neeson or William Hurt based on Kafka's "Metamorphosis". I searched on the net and can't find it or missed it. Did I dream it? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOrhpRtEXH8 Cat... Satre, Nietzsche, Kafka, Camus, Jung, Frankl, just a few great *thinkers*, imho. I think we can all add to this list of who's whos who have shaped our minds. Or emptied them. Ram Dass.. Adi Da... and many Bhakti gururs are just some for me... and then there are the poets.... ~Anna

Can't help you (I don't think)

with the movie, but thought I'd comment on the poem. You evoke such a great image at the end; not exactly the cheeriest, but it leaves an impression all the same. (hey, I'm the poster child for un-cheery, so I like it) I love the idea of the entire piece. One of my favorites, for sure. ~ Ronda
