In the alley I stand waiting
For my hapless victim to come along.
Her useless life, I am hating,
For she is as careless as I am strong.

It is true, I am a slayer.
I want to strip her down... rip her apart,
And peel away all her layers
To get beyond the fluff and find her heart.

I, the victim of my anger
She is the symptom of my love gone wrong.
She has left me here to languor.
I could play her and have her for a song.

In the darkness I stand wanting.
Her hapless victim; to her I belong.
This alleyway I am haunting,
For I am the weak one and she is strong.

Good to fear

Hi Cat ! Good poem ! I think being afraid of losing it to anger is really a bad thing. I think if one fears or loses control of anger to the point of others' getting hurt it is so important to become assertive when anger starts to arise. Why am I getting angry? What is the best way to handle my anger so I don't damage myself in any way or someone else. Tough skills to learn in fact some never do and some just don't want to do the work - don't care. Some say the opposite of love is not hate but rather anger because hating someone won't do any damage but anger is a driving emotion, nobody has control over it arising. Control comes in with what we do :) Wow! Was that a lecture? Hope not ! Just some thoughts by this old guy lol Joy and Peace, Mark

Thanks

For sharing your deeper thoughts with me on this poem. I feel honered that it made you think so hard about this subject. I agree with you, anger is the flipside of love. Edge/Cat

Inverted

Somehow I picture two things at the same time. A murderer convincing himself/herself that what they are going to do is right and inverting it to themselves being the victim and yet I also get the picture of someone desperately crying out for help because they are trying to kill the twisted creature/emotion within. I started to say that there were a couple of rough spots, but I think it actually feels better to me the way it is. Powerful write. I think I missed something in the first read. 3rd word in 1st verse. Is it ally as in friend or alley as in a place? I love this poem. Rett: It may look easy, when you look at me, But it took years of effort, to become the mess that you see John Fogerty

There is much more to this one

than meets the eye Cat. To me the slayer is the side that wants more than you have and whose anger is at the weak victim who hangs on steadfastly to what they have got and knows their limitations. It is that knowledge and dedication, even though fuelled by weakness and fear, that makes the victim stronger than the killer who is merely a helpless prisoner of impossible need. Whatever the interpretation though I loved the poem. Keith

Dear Keith

I know I can always count on your keen mind to delve to the bottom of the emotion and come up with the inner workings that make the piece what it is. Great observation, with you it is an art form. Always* Cat

Cat you learned far to well my girl. This is excellent Edge is getting stringer be careful. I suppose Isis has to answer this one? Excellent Excellent write. I felt every bit of the bitters , hate and anger in this. In fact this is pretty much how I feel right now so maybe that is why I felt it as I did It does me proud to see how far your writing has come , you have surpassed your teacher, my job is done Chrystalie

Wow, I think I'm going to be scared of alleyways for quite some time now. Edge just sounds like a rough dude. Excellent write, Cat! Off to read WWIS (what would Isis say?) lol! ~Jess K. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ~ "Everyone needs to believe in something. Emotions play a key-role

Emotions play a key-role here. There are two different sides of one's personality, the fight between them makes the entire personality to evolve or to fall down swiftly; now it depends of how equilibrate are these two sides. Inverted indeed, because in life we need both in a continuously circle. Well done Cat Best regards, Marius

Nice to see you too. Richard

I think you are right, we are all in some way inverted. I think these kinds of feelings are common enough. What matters is how we act, or don't act on them. Thanks for reading :) Always, Cat
