The Struggles Of Sheetal Sheth Against Racism In Hollywood

In her first filmABCDShe didn't know whoShe wanted to be When she wentTo HollywoodThey saidYou don't lookLike you should                                                                                                  You're not AsianYou're not WhiteYou don't fitOur stereotype If you wish to passThe Hollywood testsYou must go toplessAnd get fake breasts She really wantedA Hollywood breakBut knew those changesWould be a mistake Why make those changesJust to make a dealHer greatest strengthIs that she's real! If HollywoodSuccess you chaseYou're in for a battleIf you're not the right race

I can appreciate this on

I can appreciate this on many levels...pardon me if I am rambling, but I work in real estate with mostly Jewish people where I live and I know how she felt to an extent, and then I also work in politics...and I won't even go into how race matters in that arena...I hope you printed this out and gave it to her...friends like you make the hard days much better...

Thank you so much for your comment!

She is a very good actress. Her parents are from India. She is a first generation Indian American. Most of the time when she appears for a casting call for a Hollywood movie, she is told that they don't want her because she doesn't have the right look for the role. They don't think that she looks like am American. She is an American! Americans come from all different countries. I think it is so unfair that the people in Hollywood have this kind of attitude. I'm really glad that you like the poem! Sincerely. Michael

I quite agree!

She is one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen! If I ever made a movie she would definitely be the star! Sincerely, Michael

I agree with everybody here. Hollywood...well, it is Hollywood, and most of what they do is "make believe". We like the movies though, but we do not like their philosophy.

Thank you for asking Richard !

Thank you for asking Richard. It went fine. There were less people there than I expected. Mostly people who had their poems included in the booklet. There's a guy in Chicago named C. J. Laity who publishes people's poetry in small booklets. Each person who submits a poem pays $20. He refunds the money if he decides not to use your poem in one of the booklets. He then distribute the booklets free of charge to the public at public events. He printed up 400 copies of the current booklet, and distributed them at the Literary Festival, called the Printer's Ball at Columbia College in Chicago, where I read my poem. I am really glad that he decided to publish my poem because I hope that it will act as a little bit of publicity for the lady discussed in the poem. He gave me three copies of the booklet, and that I ordered 10 more to give to friends and family. I guess this is not really totally like really being published, but least this man is considered to be a legitimate poet, and an honest person in the Chicago poetry community. The name of the booklet is Cram 6 2009 uncensored edition. I was very nervous, and I don't think that I read very well, but it least I got through it OK, and I did not make any major mistakes. It was my first time reading before a large audience. All the other readers were much more experienced than I was. Here is the link to the website of C. J. Laity. http://chicagopoetry.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=1191 Michael
