In Memory of My Dad, on Father's Day

My Dad succumbed to brain cancer,
'twas not a pretty sight.
But, dignity was his forte',
even up to his last night.

Our family pulled together,
some were allowed to see him leave,
but, that did not soften much
our propensity to grieve.

Oh, what a sad state of affairs,
'twas too early he left this earth.
This man held my heart in his hands,
and gave me so much worth.

We shared so much in humor,
and music, just the same;
I was in such awe of him,
and was proud to share his name.

There's been time, and time again
I've felt strong, and even bolder,
after feeling inadequate,
I've felt his arm around my shoulder.

Do I miss his presence?
Not as much as one might think.
Because when I've done something, well
I can almost see him, "wink".

Don't get me wrong-it's difficult
to put sorrow away to hide,
but, I live in anticipation
of our reunion, on the other side.
