Save the Aliens!

Humans think they are so fucking special.

Snorts.

We are smart enough to destroy ourselves
and our planet
but are we smart enough to save ourselves
and our planet?

Are we even special?

One of nine planets in this solar system,
others of which
might sustain life
might have sustained life
might yet sustain life.

Not necessarily life as we know it.

And this sun is one of around
one hundred billion
in this galaxy

And this galaxy is one of around
two hundred billion in the universe
... and counting

Anyone care to take odds on alien life?

So why no irrefutable contact?
A few reasons come up,
maybe faster than light travel is truly impossible
maybe we just don’t recognise them,
in their alien-ness,
my favourite is
by the time they know enough
to pass between the stars,
they know enough
not to fuck with the natives.

At least till they learn
not to fuck with themselves
or their planet.

Any way you look at it,
they are probably there.

Poor things.
If sentient they have free will
if they have free will
they have the capacity
and inclination to evil
(so we are told)
so they must need a Messiah
(so we are told)
but there is only one
(so we are told)

Poor bastard!
Bugger of a job,
even for a god.

Dying a trillion, trillion gruesome deaths
all over the universe.
Thanks for the work, Dad!

Or maybe they don’t need a Messiah
(hush boy! Cover your mouth)

maybe,
just maybe,
they needed,
like us,
to save themselves.

Wow!

A powerful write here. I approve, applaud, support. Thanx, Chuck PS: BTW, sorry for my picture. Only a few days ago I was a caterpillar ... and am now morphed a butterfly. But if I were destined to be a butterfly, I'm glad it's a monarch. Perhaps now I can dictate, as kingly monarchs like to do, the way of the world. Hopefully.

Considering the self-destructive nature of the human race, I am quite willing to believe that alien races, probably of higher intelligence, will see us as little more than either pets, or food. Interesting write. Will have to read back through as it was a little long - but got the overall point the first time around. ~Jess K. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ~ "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." - Thomas Jefferson ~ "Tonight's forcast: dark, continued dark tonight, turning to partly light in the morning..." - George Carlin

Now this is good

and glad to see you writing and such an interesting topic.. I completely agree.. as I feel if there were a God... in his or her infinite wisdom... why would he/she put all the marbles on the human race.. I think it is man who needs to believe there is nothing out there to stay the self-important beings we are.. and space is too vast for that to be true... the good thing is it is not just my opinion... I love it when a poem excites me into a comment... thank you for sharing with us.. Richard

Humans, at this stage of

Humans, at this stage of evolution, are the the only ones afaik that have within them the power of conscious awareness: *I* contain multitudes, including the light of 10000 suns. Even if there is another evolutionary cycle beyond human, it's still in the capacity of *human conscious awareness*. Great poem... thank you. Hugs, Anna

I'll dig out an article about the new wave of survivalist folks who see impending economic disaster... Never mind the alien from another galaxy... just like the old Twilight Zone episodes, the fear is the alien in one another... and how to survive. ~Anna A s f ar a s i k now

Hi Jess

Interesting and thought provoking piece. Extra terrestrial life? Wonder whether we will ever find out for sure. The other question: we sure look like we are on a roller coaster ride to destruction. Take care

well...colour me green... but I think we're all just starting to wake up to the roles we've taken .... when we realize that... the alien will have come home... and we'll plant seeds that will not fall on fallow ground. Now wouldn't that be a nice story?

I know we could save ourselves and believe we won't and still strangely care. It's why I'm glad I have not had kids and it really gives my depression something to play with. Thanks for your comments. cheers, Jess

Moondoll claps madly in approval- and I mean that seriously. This is simply brilliant. Maybe, just maybe they already know about us ( I suspect they have done for years) and have decided we need to 'grow' a little and stop messing up our own world before they even think about inviting us to theirs? I know I would. Regardless, this is a fantastic poem and I feel one of your best. Nothing to criticise here at all so it scores 5 from me! It strikes me weird that no-one has commented on the messianic parts. I expected to offend someone. Am I losing my touch? cheers, Jess

well I disagree

Smiles:) Barbara I disagree with your idea of human being special because we are, the messiah was provided for us, but this is written with such a profound poetic talent my concentration on your views of aliens and our vast universe captivated me and held my attention. Imagining the awesome intellect behind such celestial things is enjoyable for me to read in your poem even if I don't believe there are other life out there besides us. Maybe there are but is no concrete evidence to believe otherwise. Then that just my opinion.

diid you even read this?

If there is a messiah he has to die a grueome death on evey sentient planet. Poor bastard, malicious god. I throw a half-brick at him. I totally disbelieve in a jugmental, punishing god. Make your own choice. If I am wrong I would prefer the company of people with integrity than smug christians, cheers, Jess

Yes I read it

Smiles:) Barbara and I enjoyed the alien story and the universal image, but did not focus on the messiah part accept that he died for us. as I did not understand your meaning. we all have free choices and freewill to believe what we choose.I smug Christian are they so bad because they are satisfied. You have integrity you say what you honestly believe, I disagree and that means I have no integrity? I am honest in what I believe. I never debate religion. I only agree or disagree with out unfair harsh characterizing. you wanted a comment you got one. My comment stand as is. As for the messiah I believe in him, some don't. freewill, free choices. I never judge. your view is well taken but I don't believe my god is like that at all.

Aliens

grew up with National Enquirer as a kid there was stories about Aliens amongst us Up here there was stories about Lights in the sky around Temagami etc in the late forties and just recently we have sent space probes and moon landings and viewed distant planets in fine High definition detail Oh and the Hubble has given up new notions that there are infinite galaxies millions of light years upon years away or where ever they are today because after all that what we are viewing is the past beyond our own existence as far as I can see we are only contained to contaminating this planet and the Messiah said he would be back or amongst us I like what you said Jess that maybe he was dying a million deaths out there that we will either be consumed by our own humanity which entails wars havoc and emolation by nuclear resolution OR somehow something again happens to allow us to somehow see one another as true brother and sister but what about that tower called Babel or what about the Muslims now they believe in Mohummad they dont believe in that Jesus fellow and they are pretty determined in their beliefs also And if we had a vehicle that could visit distant "places" if "light-speed" meant also"time travel" You could hop an overnighter and meet an old time poet Or go ahead and see if anyone is reading your published works say fifty years after your dead and if you are truly ambitious rule a little planet or place carve some statues leave a temple or two Horus looked pretty interesting Christianity has been around though for awhile clay pots and goats notwithstanding if there are any captured aliens in Nevada i hope they are making the new electric cars and alcohol fuel vehicles on reverse technology LED lights etc its just so strange that as we progress from primitive the costs of feeding ourselves will be "skyrocketing" and going "out of this world" My favourite story about Jesus was about a group he was going to help by teaching the scriptures and all they wanted to see was a "miracle" and he said "okay You want a miracle I cured so and so over two miles away in the village" of course the person was cured but he was let down The Messiah!! Yes by all means save the aliens they will be interesting! what are the chances of having a mirror universe somewhere ?? Save the Aliens

I have always thought it was rather arrogant of us to believe we are the only life in the universe. Even if a person believes in God, and I loved your lines about so many deaths, it said He created the Heavens and the Earth, nowhere does it say he only created us. A hell of a long read, but actually worth it. Some damn well made points! Rett ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Some call me lazy, I prefer Energy Conservationist~~~~~~~~~~~~~ That's P.C. speak by the way.

I may not

Regret saying this so here I go.lol. My take on both the poem and the conversation it fueled. I am late to read this , but here goes. I believe in this universe we can not be alone. If God created the universe as we are want to believe, then where was he when he did it? Where did God come from? Yes, I am asking and I answer my own questions with this...God did not come from Earth! He created it, so that makes him...Yes, an Alien. Before some of you come for me with pitch forks and torches examine what an alien is. This is what I am saying. It is unlikely that there is no origin for God, if you believe in him. So if God came from some where else other then earth, we can not be the only ones. My newest question to my many is what if we find we are the Martians. What happens if all the ancients were right and we did travel around. Mars could have been earth. This planet could be our do over. If it is we are not passing again. Thats enough for now. I love this type of discussion. Sorry I read this so late. Good one Jess. Dana

I like the way you think

Jess, I wholeheartedly believe there is life out there. Only man would be arrogant enough to believe that in a universe so vast that man can barely comprehend,we are the only planet with intelligent life. I think not. As for why they've not made contact? Well if they're advanced enough to visit, they're smart enough to know that we are basically a warrior race. What would be the first thing we'd do if a UFO were to hover over Washington DC? We'd dispatch fighters to shoot it out of the sky. Great writing...enjoyed it alot! Take Care, Brian

I would probably be one of the silly hippies

who got disintegrated greeting them, like in the movie "Indepence Day". I admit I cried and hugged a tree after seeing that movie. Only light speed explains to me why we haven't made contact. Or, as you say, perhaps we are too lousy and warlike. cheers, Jess

Autum I would tend to agree with you

God is alien and maybe an alien but what does matter is He has comunicated maybe he is the reinging warloard in our sections of the heavens maybe he did create us maybe he sent his son to bring us all together maybe satan is his rival then what? I love the Star Gate tv series and Star Trac I can't say I totally get God or what his motivations are But I Know thier is some one out there and he is trying if he hasn't already made contact I believe we are too ignorarnt to comphrened his motives and or Love and we are dangerously vilable we might be in a peatree dish in a bio hazarad lab in his space ship But I tend to believe in creation rather then eviloution Mabye I am vain maybe the world is flat no wonder we are left alone we are not sure of anything and have proven nothing so by faith we our save either way I see no air but I know it is their there for I breathe I love aliens especially the one that make the best tacos Donnie/Sinbad
