two fledglings (haiku)

dawn's primal shadow
closely trails single fledgling
robin across deck

fledgling cardinal
hunkers on back patio
in spring morn's sunshine

nice

the first two lines fall heavy upon this reader's imagination: "dawn's primal shadow/closely trails single fledgling/robin across deck.." i was glad the robin got away: the anti-naturalist in me was provoked. a tense, compact and sensitive read.

Thanx for Your Read ... and Comment

I must say, a bit laughingly (sorry), that something ominous was not intended. The intention rather was to paint a peaceful scene---one quite relaxing, in fact. The shadow spoken of fell away from the fledgling robin him-/herself. There was no danger present. Primal as in early, first, pristine. Dawn's primal shadow as in shadow, in this case the fledgling robin's, made by/at sun's first light. Yours, Chuck PS: Glad I could clear this up. An anticipation of your personal reaction had not occurred to me.

Absolutely Jess. I liked

Absolutely Jess. I liked this a lot. The haiku is smooth and tells the story extremely well. Great work as always Chuck. Kaz It's impossible to smile on the outside without feeling better on the inside.

I keep trying to ...

conform the second part above to the following change (which alteration so far the original posting has refused to accept): fledgling cardinal hunkers on back patio, takes spring morn’s sunshine Ruefully wishing it would cooperate ... when of course it doesn't, Chuck

Little birds

Hi, Chuck ~ These evoke peaceful images of an early morning. Makes me want to be on the porch! I can see where quills got a little nervous over the primal shadow lurking over the poor baby bird. Not sure why the word "primal" brings such negative connotations to the surface, but my mind tends to do the same thing. Glad you sorted that out! Thanks for this glimpse into a such a serene moment! Best, Ronda
