A Buddhist's rosary
Globules of silence threaded

Which method of haiku are you using if the traditional 5/5/7 your count is off 6/8/5 is what you have here. I prefer the 5/7/5 as hat is the traditional pattern anything else in my opinion just freeform , and as I just stated that is strictly my opinion Chrys

Haiku

Thanks for the input. I intended using the 5/7/5 pattern but I slipped up. It should have been "Buddhist Rosary" instead of "A Buddhist Rosary". I am not sure how you are getting 8 for the second line because I count 7. Please take another look and let me know. Take care ... Leonard

As it is fun to keep the

As it is fun to keep the form of the traditional Japanese, (17 syllables, as you know) I have found it quite liberating to throw the form out the window as many American(or Western rather), haikuists have done. As a student of Eastern language, religion and poetry, I have to agree with Kerouac when he says that ‘…Western languages cannot adapt themselves to the fluid syllabillic Japanese.’ That being said, I still love writing in 5/7/5. (sorry Chrys am I wrong there? 5/7/5 right, not 5/5/7?) Lovely (western) haiku Leonard. If it was your intention to break the mold, perhaps a note would clear up questions of form.

Smiles:) Barbara I agree with chrys. if you chose the Japaneses style Haiku its form is specific. I too like the 5|7|5. So If you are liberal throwing its form out the window as sean says many Haikuist does. I feel it is not real Haiku just my opinion. I must research western Haiku to see it origin and style of writing. It seems there are two type of haiku according to sean. My opinion, if you want your poem to be considered Haiku it should be just that. Image rather too vague me to see clearly, but does flow well.

Love it

This is a topic of discussion that I'm truly fascinated about. I'm afraid I have bit too much to say to put in this comment. If you would like to take the time to read my recent blog entry entitled 'Haiku' I think it will cover the ground I wish to advance. I have to say that I love the image in this Haiku, as a Buddhist I can see your globules clearly. I'm not crazy about 'Rosary' in the title though. Nice write!
