"In the innings of your life...

Game-plans, & signals change...
more likely, than not;
during the innings of your life.

but, if you were to tell me that,
you've never once, tried to "get a grip",
on the "art"...of merely rolling with the punches,
and try shaggin' a few infield flies;

Or better yet...begin playing the role of "utility man"!
In the "playback reel", of the innings of your life.
Maybe, you'll learn to hit a knuckle-ball,

sing the National Anthem, or throw out the first pitch.
One needs to remember the "basics"...the "rudiments" of the game,
"And try and get yer wits aboutcha!"
We're rehearsing for the one & only, "Big Show"!

But,  the answer seems to be a, "raging No".
Ya gotta do your best to grow into your abilities.
Here's what the bottom line, completely points out...

whether you're in the 2nd inning,
or it's the 13th, you're "up", & you're the winning run;
Atleast attempt to get a "handle" on the runs, base hits, averages, & errors,
against your "stats"! in the innings of your life.

Apart from the ‘Ya’

Apart from the 'Ya' instead of 'you' (I would have preferred 'you' but then I am a bit of a perfectionist lol) I enjoyed this a lot Doc. I don't understand baseball (is it baseball?) so won't comment further - I'm sure others can. I liked these lines:- sing the National Anthem, or throw out the first pitch. One needs to remember the "basics"…the "rudiments" of the game, "And try and get yer wits aboutcha!" We’re rehearsing for the one & only, "Big Show"! Cheers Kaz It's impossible to smile on the outside without feeling better on the inside.
