The Healer

He is the Healer,

bringer of lotus balm

and silken sleep.

The steady voice

that plunges steel

into scaly-throated

Bayou Demons,

portending calm.

The boundless soul

to whom

can pass all pain

and suffering

by making it

his own.

The spirit who’s

silent love

need never again

be spoken

beyond each cure.

A Love that binds

each reaching hand

to heal the souls

of damaged Angels

drawn to the light

of his embrace.

A Love that is

pure energy

of purpose

until healing

seals the portal

of its care.

A Love that flows

to all who

pour their heart

and drink his words

and feel the zephyr

of each soothing whisper

that breathes

his spirit across

all distances and times

He can fulfill

only others' dreams,

dreams

that never

can be his.

For he is nothing

but the wind

blowing in the

lonely vastness

of a mystic sea,

filling torn sails

of passing ships

until they’re gone

where they are bound,

and he is become

the memory

of salty tears

grown sweet upon

each Angel’s face..

He is the Healer,

condemned to wander

this storm-broken,

hungry sea

of shipwrecked souls

who seek the direction

of his journey’s light,

and by their

safe passing

fill his beacon’s fire

with raging emptiness.

I like the indirect commentary on possibilities, here.

The poem draws us in very well. Like me, you have a tendency to drawn-out sentences sometimes, and I think an aloud reading might help. In S5, "others' dreams" would work better than the singular possessive, I think. And I sometimes wonder why certain words are capitalized within the text. Nevertheless, this is a worthy effort and I enjoyed the read. Yours in peace, Synchro

Something of a "song of experience" here as i am sure you have surmised and i am happy it struck a chord. You are right about others'...it was supposed to be that way but it must have got lost in translation somewhere. lol. The capitals are merely to distinguish a more spiritual Love from purely romantic love. Demons are very much with a capital "D" for those who they inhabit....or at least they feel that way to me. Jess

as I said to Anna the personal wounds of the Physician here are not physical and those that are physical are mainly caused his taking on the ills of others through the medium of love. A Healer could never be an abuser though, that would be a complete and impossible contradiction. And yes as others have pointed out the Flying Dutchman image is clearly invoked although it was not intentional. Keith

Beg to disagree, Keith.

people who have been hurt make a clear choice at some point in their lives that they will protect and heal or contiinue the cycle of perpetration, sometimes even under the guise of a protector healer. Despicable but true. cheers, Jess

Actually i do agree

when you put it this way Jess. I merely wanted to say that once a healer always a healer and the other side of the coin appears true as well once an abuser always an abuser. Keith

It is truth you speak

It is truth you speak Jess... Some *healers* are Lotharios under any guise... or wardrobe... Always words are used to intrigue and beguile..the snare and the trap. Who their victim is and how the victim is victimized sets the stage. It's always about power...and usually sex. ~Anna

The “wounded healer” is

The "wounded healer" is but a stage in our lives... as we continue the healing of ourselves. imho. But the mythos I think (at least in my mind) was the Flying Dutchman. I've written many poems about both. Posted one to another group... Ain't it funny how brilliant minds think synchronistically? Carry on Professor... Carry on! ~Anna

By healing others

he heals himself Anna or, more accurately fulfills himself, since his wounds are not physical. And yes the Fying Dutchman imagery just came without any conscious attempt to conjure it. Keith

Physical wounds heal by

Physical wounds heal by themselves in their own way, their own time, sometimes with help...sometimes *naturally*. However, the near mortal-wounds that are of the heart and soul... need tenderness of a true Healer that cares not for anything but healing... So few true healers in this world... ~Anna

Wth.. the poem doesn’t

Wth.. the poem doesn't need to be spotlighted... I submitted to Propeace where I am listed as a poet... (A good place for peace-poet-activists) I wrote this for another physician at Poetry Chaikhana last year. The Physician ~~ Bodhisattva Dream The physician wore moonlight on straight broad shoulders well into the night, his black mare a flaming star, Once upon a time they stopped for a cool sip near the valley foretold in his youthful dreams: Sweet River Of The Willow Tree, Enlightenment was fast asleep, spreading like wildfire the scent of gardenia and lotus blossom, the touch of mimosa falling from her silver hair, he smiled, quietly passing her by to heal the sick and raise the dead.

I also have a Flying Dutchman poem, Anna

Perhaps I'll include it here some time. I like your Buddhist reference above, and there certainly is a lot of poem material inherent in that...particularly with respect to the Bodhisattva. Pardon me prof, for temporarily forgetting your thread, but I must challenge Anna, however. I thought that mindfulness was the necessary ingredient for the spread of enlightenment. The end is a killer, though. And, prof...you raise some interesting possibilities of the broken soul as a healer, particularly of those other than himself. It 's something I'll have to grok on. I guess S5 is your answer to that, and worth considering. It says to me something more than "we can all profit from tragedy"...S6 is terrific, and sends me into those winds as a seeker. Great poem! Hi Synchro, My purpose in

Hi Synchro, My purpose in posting the thread of Bodhisattva here, is that a true gifted healer can not do anything but *heal* ~ him/herself included... Most of the time healing takes place in the deep recesses of ourselves and often we are blind deaf and dumb...in unawareness... Profs poem magnificently spreads it out, dissected as it were, no matter what the illness...love is the cure.. but then that's just my interpretation. It's all emptiness, in the end... once one is *mindful*. lol. ~Anna

I certainly agree with that

I certainly agree with that interpretation, Anna. What I questioned was that enlightenment could be "fast asleep".... Yours in peace, Synchro

ty. for suggesting I read this friend.

As the healer heals others ,, in a way he also heals himself.. Few have the gift of being a healer .. and yes many need and seek such.. but in the healing of others the healer need not to forget that he himself my need some of this healing .. I am sure there is great fullfillment in the healing of others.but that said helping all those who seek of this healing can also weigh heavy on the healer as he gets fullfillment yes, but is never really filled himself.. maybe the healer is in need of a healer himself !! This was a very enlightening write friend.. One in which has provoked alot of thought in me .. I will talk with you more on this subject another time my friend. till then You take care and God Bless. Yes there is always great fulfillment for the healer and sometimes that is all the healing he needs himself. Keith

Hello there Keith! It's nice to see you posting again. I enjoyed this one,it is Beautiful. Just one line I have trouble with [54] "and he is become" "There's no trick to being a humorist when you have the whole government working for you." Will Rogers

Glad you liked it. Re-read the line you have trouble with but am still happy with it...its scans fine but may be it is the fact that it is a somewhat unusual old fashioned expression. BW Keith

Having just come through a major operation (and recovering well) this poem really sang to me. It great to read your work again my friend. He is the Healer, condemned to wander this storm-broken, hungry sea of shipwrecked souls These lines stood out to me above the rest - BUT the whole poem as always is beautifully written, flows like a dream and made me want to read it over again - I did several times before commenting. :-) Kaz It's impossible to smile on the outside without feeling better on the inside.
