Cinco de Mayo

So it came to pass,In 1862,The bloodiest year,That Lincoln knew Napoleon,He saw his chance,A New World state,To take for France. Now, he thought,It would be witty,The time was right,To take Mexico City. 7000 French,They did descend,Only 2000 mestizos,There to defend. The French thought,They would not last,But, those Mexicans,They did hold fast. With scythes and plow shears,At the ready, In the end,They did hold steady. Our gratitude,We cannot hide.We owe so much,To Mexican pride.
