Greener Pastures

when granite pillars sag
once gateways to
sacred realms
built by slave labor
with materials bought
by coins
extracted
from faithful
mystified followers
awed by crafty props
bolstered by tales
of pits of fire
or streets of gold
built on captured
expectations
of a much better
here after yet
similar enough
to appease
the expectations
of jittery investors

I flashed on two things that you may be talking about: Churches or the city of Rome. Neat poem - I like it! ~Lynn (Dwarfie) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ~ "Bush is listening.... use big words!" ~ "Your inferiority complex is better than mine..."

Thank you Lynn, a very valued comment

as well as Jess' more is needed.I think along with that will be breaks, a few more connecting verses should paint it a bit clearer. If you ever get the chance there is a documentary on the temple gimmicks, very elaborate constructs that presented the wonders of "gods", for which the faithful where charged the price of sacrifice and tithes to see.Not so much for blashamy myself, simple because the churches history speaks for its self. Sure churches provide social hubs for a community. The organize charities and they serve a purpose in that regard, yet the faith based scam still holds a top slot in fraud and exploitation. When a church is investigated for money laundering I get a little visceral at the lack of denouncement from their peers. in ink, dabbler

Thank you Lenny

Let us pray... now to process your prayer we will need $20.00 US. We assure or prayer processing will benefit your already existing faith... we offer referals if you require them. Our first 10 responses to this promotion will get the same service for $12.00 with proof of 3 referals. If any of your congragation wish to process their prayer, yet are finanially challenged we offer a fundraiser, selling candy bars ( bought whole sale, stripped of their orininal wrapper, and then rewrapped with charitable labels.) How easy is it. The churches boast your sucker list. I want to believe, but I don't want to pay more then a moments attention. " Padre, that praying hand is rather close to my wallet." Re-visiting this

I think it stands as it is, but still needs just a little something, perhaps in the title. How about "Posturing Pastors"? cheers, Jess

Why wait until we get there

I mean what is faith without emotional entertainment, If I told you you could feel God waiting to see him is all that is left. How much would you pay to have your faith assured? I think I will wait, secure that the here after has nothing to do with the here now. In ink Dabbler

Yes!

"How much would you pay to have your faith assured?" - that, my friend, is one of the most true statements I've heard.....ever.... ~Lynn (Jess K.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ~ "Bush is listening.... use big words!" ~ "Your inferiority complex is better than mine..."

I pay attention nothing more...

while people go around seeking performances from "Gods Side Show" I watch light fill formerly dark areas of our mysterious existence. Subtle things, they may not knock me off my feet and cause me to go to a monastery in some far off mountain. I am secure in my faith, regardless of how I feel. even things deemed repulsive show me there is a greater Horizon Beyond our own. In ink, Dabbler
