The Now

In an empty green field
On this marijuana morning
I attempt to corral the sky’s escaped kangaroos
With the sheer force of my mind

Puffy, white, smiling beasts
Sly and mischievous
They frolic once, twice
Then evolve into children, mountains and rolling pins

The sun coats me like honey with its warmth
Its gentle tongue caressing
Softly
Soothing me sleepily

Clocks are uninvented in my altered now
And I bask
And the kangaroos return
Presenting daisies
Aromatic clouds,
My last sight before I slip
Into light dream and perfect present moment….
Perfection now.

weedy interlude

Haven't smoked weed in ages--I liked it too much, so ran away like a scalded cat. possible spelling fix(es): 'coral' should be 'corral' if you mean to contain those kangaroos. Stay with 'coral' if you want to pink them up some, but expect that people will jump on it as a spelling error. 'mischevious' can stand, if that's the way you say it. A lot of people do. More common spelling is 'mischievous,' and some will be very insistent that it must be so spelled. Nothin' broken here. I'm reduced to proof-reading and word choice quibbles.

You are correct on both

You are correct on both spelling notes, I claim laziness (I wasn't stoned when I wrote it, I swear!!). Marijuana was actually not the impetus of this piece, yoga was. Present Moment Awareness, a strong theme in yogic philosophy; then I remembered an incident of perfect, in the now, peace from nearly twenty years ago, summertime, a field, some pot and some cloud watching... then a nap. Perfect Now. Thanks for the proof-read. Alobar (Just my two cents, spend them on gum if you wish.)

this is so very perfect I drifted right along with it what a mellow peaceful piece of writing this is thank you! mischievous is correct as you have it some folks do have different pronunciations of it but it is like potatos(pronounced with a long A) and potatos( pronounced with a short a sounding like ah) they are spelled potatos however you look at it beautiful poem Chrys

So I’ve now corrected the

So I've now corrected the word "mischievous" twice, and I know how to spell the damn word! I don't know what is wrong with me sometimes--the eye sees wrong as write--I wasn't trying to create an inflection with the word, I just made a typo. Thank you for your kind comments on my poem, your praise is received humbly and with honour. Alobar (Just my two cents, spend them on gum if you wish.)

I like...

...How you described something as simple as clouds. At first glance, one would probably associate this description as something seen while high (since you were talking about pot in the previous sentence) well done on you! ~Lynn (Dwarfie) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ~ "Bush is listening.... use big words!" ~ "Your inferiority complex is better than mine..."

Thank you, I’m glad I

Thank you, I'm glad I succeeded in conveying something beyond "a stoner poem," which was my fear with the marijuana reference and the somewhat psychedelic imagery which the clouds naturally have. Clouds are high, pot-smoker is high--interesting pun, it hadn't occurred to me. thanks. Alobar (Just my two cents, spend them on gum if you wish.)

Sky kangaroos - yes, I

Sky kangaroos - yes, I remember looking at clouds and finding a zoo above - all those imaginary creatures skittering about on the big blue playground! I think you captured that feeling of floating in a bubble of imagination - this is a joy to read. I have no criticisms - all the small details seem to have been addressed. Good show!

Thanks to all who commented,

Thanks to all who commented, pleased you all appreciated my fanciful little ditty about clouds, with just a hint of pharmaceutical augmentation. I think "the now" (the state, not neccessarily the poem) is a place we all go when we write poetry, and is a sublime place, even if only used to watch clouds.
