Is the Election Over Yet?

So we're here
At a place in time
Where a woman
And a black man
Are vying for a spot
To go against
An old white man
A vanguard
Of the pre-slave days
Of the men only club
It only took
232 years
From when they,
And by they
I only mean men,
Declared all of them,
Those men,
Are created equal.

For a year
I've been knocked out
Hearing meaningless
Talks with cattle
Believing this to be
Our only chance
To realize a dream
You can only dream
If you're not awake
And so they lullabye,
Hill and Barrack that is,
Us into a coma
That they care
For any of us.

They do not care
Thinking they do
Is as meaningless
As a skyward prayer
They hear no cries
So do not speak
And do not hear
Pull from inside
Any one who cares
From Jesus to
Abbie Hoffman
Stayed on the fringe
Knowing once you step
Into the circle
The sharks surround
And you either give in
Or slowly get ripped
Apart.

Stop blind belief
Get a clue
They don't care about me
Or about you
They do not care
For any of us
Only for them
Do not let
Skin or breasts
Fool you into coma:
Splash cold water
Do a line
From John Eight
Steal a book
And fight back
By not at all
And vote not
And cry not
And do onto them
As they've done to you
As they've done to Christ
As they've done to Abbie.

I'm too tired
To hear their speech
So I'll turn in
And tune out
And let me know
How much things change
When this election
Is finally over.
