A Fine Day
It was sunday, Not like any other
as I rose from my bed, my little boy
said " I love you daddy"
with a kiss on the cheek
I watched him play as I prepared
his breakfast, we laughed
his smile warmed my heart
It was the best I felt all week
Then we loaded the car
with what was needed to go
we went to his mommies, I cooked
for his sister and her, we thought it would
be a nice way to say " we love them too"
I was finally home, once again
our family whole, it was a fine day
I said goodbye, I choked out the tears
as I walked out the door.
My brother and I then went to the jail
we had too, they keep our best friend there
we call him "dad"
Now it had been awhile since I saw him smile
but when he saw us together, thats all he had
"smiles"
I let him know that he was not alone, I choked out
the tears, It was a fine day
So I returned to where it is I dwell, my place by the
tracks, to clean up a bit and to reflect.
Now afternoon had come, alone I stood, again
when I answered my phone I heard,
"would you like to come home for dinner tonight?"
her voice so, beautiful
Our family complete, though briefly it was nice
it was a fine day
Like the perfect circle on my finger and what it represents
I wear it now again, though on the wrong hand
with the hope that soon it will make the move
to it's rightful place, like me, one family
then I can spend every moment with the ones I love
and once again we will be whole, forever
what a fine day that will be!
as I reflect,upon these dreams
I choke out the tears as I fall into sleep again,
alone...
but smiling!
as I rose from my bed, my little boy
said " I love you daddy"
with a kiss on the cheek
I watched him play as I prepared
his breakfast, we laughed
his smile warmed my heart
It was the best I felt all week
