A Perfect World

With all of my posessions
I've had the audacity to ask for more,
in a storm I've wished for shelter
but, once inside-scratched at the door.
The grass always seems greener
when my place in life's unfurled...
..too bad there's no such thing as a perfect world.

We profess to want nothing
to do with problems in our lives,
avoidance is what we attempt to do
when altercations cut like knives.
We all want the peaceful life
after Fate's final blow's been hurled...
..too bad there's no such thing as a perfect world.

Our nature's to keep seeking
all of the things we cannot have.
We end up finding solace
in hope-like a sort of salve.
Those with curly lives want straight,
and those with straight ones want theirs curled...
..too bad there's no such thing as a perfect world.

If everyone had their own way
no greater calamity or commotion,
could possibly befall us
like fighting all the currents in the ocean.
Sorry for you other gemstone fans,
but OZ was emerald...
..too bad there's no such thing as a perfect world.

Wars and oppositions
are what history seems to repeat,
and as our grains flow through life's hourglass
we've accomplished no great feat.
For the winter of our existence
proves that not enough's been "squirrled"...
..too bad there's no such thing as a perfect world.
