Speaking with Child Protective Services

The pride I have in scars my children wear

The younger sort of parents cannot share.

Their fruit is wrapped, unblemished in their care.

What 'nurture' is to them seems 'cage' to me.

Their children march along the well-marked path.

At scheduled time, the kids take scheduled bath.

Confined and meek, but clean, they know no wrath--

But wrath awaits without, you must agree.

The hothouse flower from conditions mild

By insect jaws is very soon defiled,

For safe the garden; dangerous the wild.

Within my sight, my children wandered free.

They tested brutal fact against mere will.

Of cuts and broken bones they took their fill.

--I don't allow experience to kill--

And clever fish! They thrive in hostile sea!

My youngest pretty boy is slightly marred.

The eyebrow on his right is clearly scarred.

His climbings led to tumble on the hearth;

I stitched his wound and let him wiser be.

Stick and stone may break some bones

But Child Services will never catch me, although The laws have changed and they have caught my young; in younger days I would have done as a real father's would have, Gone and take them back with extreme prediduce But, broken and torn they have too presivere for themselfs and I try my best to do Damage control On hit and miss visitations. I would of have like to seen more contention with the THEMS that inspired the poem in its begining. Other than that it was a very good write Donnie/Sinbad

Sorta like trying to shove the river back where it came from

My kid got dinged---as described---and I explained how he got dinged. One talk, and I had the good fortune to speak to a CPS agent who wasn't a doctrinaire idiot. One of the four there. The other three (younger people) wanted to keelhaul me. End of episode. Thank for takin' the time to read it. Perry
