goodnight/goodbye

Not dawn or evening
only the tight shell of night
tomorrow was unsentenced
tomorrow was not believed

I have tried to be your anything
a departure from coarse realities
an opened eye, a leanable arm
to be used as an oar
but shadows were still
kept tall.

you said
blackness
was forever
even a stone wall
could not cramp the night.
you dodged that unending dark
out of raw fear and
unexplained affection

Today -
I visit you in your nothingness
a flower to say hello
your voice fades from my mind
moth eaten
but is remembered in stone.
