Villanelle " Daniel"

Who is this man sitting next to me?

Years ago, you and I right by mama's side

we were once energetic young and carefree.

Fifty yard dashes and baseball teams

hours of board games and childhood rhymes

Who is this man sitting next to me?

Sharing picnic snacks up in that maple tree

sprinkler drenched days and bicycle rides

we were once energetic young and carefree.

Spouses and children now enriching our dreams,

rusted toy trucks and tattered dolls tossed aside.

Who is this man sitting next to me?

Rocking to slowed rhythms of favorite memories

silver strands in our hair, faces etched with laugh lines

we were once energetic young and carefree.

We tend to our gardens and plant our good deeds

unearthing new pleasures, my brother and I

Who is this man sitting nextt to me?

we were once energetic young and carefree.

A very nice piece of

A very nice piece of nostalgia and tribute. I think that L9 and L15 could be eliminated for smoother reading. I very much enjoyed reading and it brought back good memories of my childhood friend. Always, Cat

Really enjoyed this

Barbara Writes "Who is this man sitting nextt to me?" fix grammar. I wonder who the man was. I first imagine it to be your father, My father ran fifty yard dashes with us when we were children.

My older sister and I were

My older sister and I were friends in childhood, then she went away to school. Years later--me, early twenties, her late--we connected again in Toronto, shared friends and experiences. Then I returned to New Brunswick and she is still in Canada's big city. We talk occasionally, send the odd e-mail--usually just a joke--but that relationship that was is now gone. I often wonder if it will ever be again? "Who is this man sitting next to me?" she may say, and I will ask of who is she? Here's hoping I connect with my sister, you your brother once again, someday, somewhere in time. Your images in the middle, by the way, were wonderful, made me smile in fond remembrance.

It was nice reading about your sister and I hope you and your sister become close again! A lot depends on ages and different circumstances in your life. Nothing is better than a close realationship with a sibling. Thank you for reading and your comment!

Awesome

One great thing about siblings. no matter how long its been since you talked to them you can always re-connect if you try. Mine are always there, time out for my own kids and grandkids, then back together again. And you don't have to explain the absence, its like going home again. They know what you've been through. They know some of your dislikes, like rice that you ate everyday as a child, walking on coffee cans with string attached....snowball fights... Sweet memories............
