God is dead!

Where are you?O powerful OneYou made the earthYou made the sun You made this worldSo full of painKilling and tortureIn your name In every yearIn every seasonMillions dieFor no reason If you existPlease tell me whyWe're born into HellOnly to die!

Good set of ideas

Good set of ideas. But did you mean to make the second stanza a statement? It gives the idea that the God has made the world full of pain. but in my opinion, the world that was created by god is now filled with pain, due to some reason. So I prefer it to look like this.(pardon me, it's only a suggestion) Why, the world you made, So full of pain? Killing and torture In your name. And about the end, "Why are we born in to hell?" is a good question to ask the god. But I wonder why you are so bothered about dieing? Because, I prefer to die & escape, if I'm living in hell! Thanks, Nilmini

Thank you for commenting!

Hi Nilmini, I wrote this poem for a contest on this website. The contest was to write two poems one from the perspective of an atheist against the existence of God (or possibly Gods depending upon your religion). The the other poem was supposed to be written supporting the existence of God(s). This poem was written an atheist prospective. Basically, the idea is the world as such a terrible place filled with pain and suffering that God could not possibly exist. If there is a God, and God made the world, then why is the world filled with such pain and suffering? From the perspective of the poem, I am so bothered about dying because if I take the atheistic prospective, then death is the worst possible thing that can happen. Death is the end. It is nothingness. As miserable as this life is, for some people death would be considered to be even worse! At least life is something. No matter how terrible Life may be. Death on the other hand is nothing! Just the end! I guess most people would prefer to escape it if they were living in hell. On the other hand, there would always be a fear of death. I guess the idea I was trying to convey can be summed up in the following statement. "Life is shit, and then you die!" By the way, my poem in support of religion for the contest is called "My Reason To Do What's Right!". I'm so glad that you like this poem, I was really getting worried that no one was going to comment on it! Thanks, Michael
