In the moonlit darkness

The fog is closing in.

In the darkness I stand.

The heavy mist of autumn,

permeating the land.

Light is absent.

Darkness rules.

In this moonlit darkness,

Are phantoms and ghouls.

They haunt their territories,

among the ethereal.

They roam this wonderland.

This phenomena so surreal.

Reminds me ...

of years suffering depression, my own, and also recognizing (at the onset of a cluster headache) that I tracked one way to a debilitating downer with attendant pain to the point of torture. Found out in more recent years (the clusters are gone now, and so, apparently, are the depression spells) that depression can be forerunner to diabetes. With which I was diagnosed at 48 years old. Now, after what seems like a thousand years of learning how to deal (sometimes with the help of a doctor or doctors, too often not) with the malady with an innovative diet and even greater self-awareness than came before, I'm aware that my prior chosen lifestyle(s) contributed to both my depression and clusters, and later to diabetes flaring its ghoulish head. Other problems came with a severe closed-head injury that for some years compromised my oral and writing language abilities. To a terrible degree. That poetry is therapeutic is, I think, understood by any and all poets to be true. One of the many benefits of posting at this site. It seems I cannot, for the life of me, write a poem or verse without it being therapeutic. My congratulations to you on finding a place to talk. Poetry that expresses what's true---this piece of yours does a fine job of it. And thanx for the sharing of it, Chuck
