The Calico Cat

The calico stared,

with haunting eyes,

He saw right through,

my souls disguise.

That all knowing look ,

from the Calico Cat,

stole away my breath.

No need for a pat.

The Calico stood there.

So still ,yet ,so telling.

I knew in my heart ,

my life's scent he was smelling.

I stood there before,

his questioning glare.

Then for only a moment,

words we did share.

They were soft whispered words,

from the depths of the soul.

"Why hide your heart?"

said the Calico.

"I'm am not sure."

did I reply,

"I used to be afraid'

but ,now I don't know why."

"But there is more loving to give,

and much more living to go.

Be not afraid."

said the calico.

I'm not sure...

...if calico are all female, but this one seemed distinctley male for some reason.I don't know maybe it just felt right using a male.Have to look it up,though thanks for pointing it out.If it's true, maybe I should apoligize to the cat, lol. Thanks, Lacy, Where power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

My reply ,you asked...

..."I'm not sure," did I reply, "I used to be afraid. But now I don't know why." "But there is love to come, And more living to go. Be not afraid," said the calico, Lacy, Where power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

Loved this!

Lacy, I loved your poem. As for all calicos being female...(I've been a cat owner for many years) most callies are female but sometimes they are male...male callies are rare and have been nicknamed "money cats"-just a bit of trivia... LadyTheresa

Thanx Lady T!

I appreciate the knowledge,I knew my gut was right. There are strays up and down my street and I think out of all of them this callico was a male. Thanx again! lacy, Where power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

You are most welcomed...

How about adding the response that you have written to this piece? It finishes the poem up quite nicely! LadyTheresa

Calico Cat

My own Calico Cat is at my feet as I type. She's quite moody and full of herself with a distinct personality that only callies seem to possess. I can fully relate to those looks. She gives me several a day. Thanks for sharing, Lacy. ~ Ronda

I love cats!

They are so regal and graceful, they can tell you how they feels with those mighty looks.Personality is their trait. For they all have them, whether perky or stoic or just plain contempt. They are a rare breed indeed. Thanks for all your comments, you are all great.
