my country it is of thee, sweet land of poverty/obesity ...

my country it is of thee,

sweet land of poverty/obesity ...

if the government was as afraid

of disturbing the consumer

as it is of disturbing business,

this would be some democracy.

                                          ---Hubbard

 ---

this country's spirits, they've grown

desert dry;

they know no more how---

no, not at all---how now

to fly

... or even try.

but never mind, I think

they hold the selfsame

now (and then

forever when)

the spell for which they're

left to yearn,

though lacking sap

for wholesome tears,

to ever cry.

hey Chuck,

I just decided that I needed a good smirk today. so I came here and started going through your old titles. and there this piece was, the one that spoke the loudest, wildly gesturing with its hand, the desperate attention-hog... :-) no, seriously, loved the title, what an eye-catcher! America is my second home because I spent part of my childhood in California and I must say that I love you crazy Americans and your land. but I've heard from some that living there permanantly can start to become quite frustrating, this is not a part of my personal experience but I suppose that I am fortunate to experience the best of both worlds. now I'm even boring myself with my own blabla... sorry and good night! :-) your Proprietress

Surprised I am ...

this morning. Just chanced on this old piece (written, of course, during the Bush term) and discovered your January 24 comment. I've lived both in Calif ... and out of it. I smile because those Californians, well, they can be so egocentric ... enough at times to think themselves a separate country apart from the U.S. So when you say, as you do here, "America is my second home because I spent part of my childhood in California," my first thought was of you living in another U.S. state---and calling that locale "America," and so delineating California as a separate country. A careful reading disabused me of that notion. It's nice to see that you contrarianlike think of California as a part of "America." And by the way, thanx for reading. If I had more time for this stuff, I'd aspire to provide a smirk a day. Around the clock, so to speak. Yours, Chuck

I echo Ronda's

statement. So sad, so sad indeed. Mark W. Proverbs 27:6 "Wounds from a sincere friend are better than many kisses from an enemy."
