Melody Online [ Villanelle] Formerly: Poet Teacher

"Listen to your inner voice today."

echoes reverberate in the night,

"Your words have much to say."

Advise from a seasoned poet,

hidden from my sight

"Listen to your inner voice today."

Prose, sestinas, and villanelles

never got my sonnet quite right

"Your words have much to say."

Repetends, anaphoras,

similes , and metaphors, try to make it tight.

"Listen to your inner voice today."

Commas, enjambments, caesura

and end stopped, are my plights

"Your words have much to say."

"Listen to your inner voice, my prot`ege

"Someday you'll reach poetic heights,

"Listen to your inner voice, today,

your words have much to say."

villanelle

Check this pattern to see if this poem fits the definition: A villanelle is a French style nineteen-line poem consisting of a very specific rhyming scheme: aba aba aba aba aba abaa. The first and the third lines in the first stanza are repeated in alternating order throughout the poem, and appear together in the last two lines. It seems a little rough to me and I don't recognize the rhyming pattern. You can definitely correct me if I'm wrong, especially since this isn't a style that I use myself. Let me know what you think! ~ Ronda
