Swallowed By Darkness

Darkness calls.

Dare I listen?

Love has fled from me.

My hands shake.

The tears glisten.

There's tremors in my knees.

The light fades.

Gloom threatens.

The shadows are closing in.

The fear chokes.

My heart beats faster.

Panic is setting in.

The light is gone.

The darkness has won.

There is nothing in this place.

I long for the shine,

That loving glow,

Of the light upon your face.

I love the strong emotions

I love the strong emotions expressed. The images are vivid - I could feel the panic and sensations as I read. The title is brilliant and expresses exactly what the poem is all about. This is great writing - thanks. :-) Kaz It's impossible to smile on the outside without feeling better on the inside.

swallowed

Hi Calliope, beautiful rhythm, gentle yet lethal. My throat constricts and my palms are sweaty with the fear. Very effective. Yours, Frangipangi

Emotionally charged

This sounds like a person backed into a corner, whispering these words. Nice tone set by smart word choices. ~ Ronda

Those faceless shadows

Such a sad and haunting poem Lacy but also, despite the inner suffering it portrays, extremely beautiful. I love the last verse in particular and I am sure it makes every reader want to be your light, at least that is how it makes me feel. lol. Dear Lacy

I have known this feeling all too well. I know that this was written awhile ago and I am hoping that you have found that shine and loving glow on a face that does the same for you. An excellent poem which made me feel what the poet was feeling. Always, Cat
