Maybe we ask too much of

Maybe we ask too much of ourselves - or maybe we should accept the plurality of 'ourselves'. I'm the worst one to comment, I constantly lose myself. BUT 'forgotten' ... but never, ever, by the reader of that I am certain. If ever I wanted an example of a poem that was superficially clear and 'simple' and yet simultaneously constructed of layers of meanings and implications, this would be it. Mike

Self-worth

Your poem speaks volumes Emarie but issues of current feelings of lack of self worth and lost personal dreams forget that there are others who feel very differently, especially your readers. Keith

Emarie

Mostly I echo what Mike said, but I wish to add more. I learned a long time ago that a person has to learn to be happy with themselves or they lose their self worth. No matter how hard life kicks, kick back, spit in it's eye and keep on. No one is better or worse than you yourself are to you. This poem is really good, simple, yet filled with hidden meaning and the more you read the deeper the meaning gets. All in all it is one hell of a good poem and I was reminded of what a friend of mine said to me from his death bed. "When someone kicks you in the teeth, bite their foot!"( Tony Morgan) Respectfully, Rett: "Life is like a beach. Salty, gritty, somewhat fishy and at other times, downright crabby" Rett: 2008

Very well done.

I like the overall poem. As has been said, it is obvious and subtle at the same time. The comments on the universal difficulties of keeping ones head above water apply to everyone. However, I was especially taken by the first two lines, "In a time when self worth / is both currency and usless", creating a dicotomy of meaning about something that should be self evident. Quite unique and thought provoking. Very good poem. John

The first two lines have

The first two lines have been a recurring thought over the last several years as I watch many many people obviously 'selling themselves', more often than not, for nothing. Therefor my conclusion is that it has become both currency and useless. I am glad that you found this. It is my goal to write subtly but I always secretly hope someone will get my intention. Thanks for the read! <3 Emarie @~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~@ "Tempted by your Tainted Love I sure do love the way you come inside my crystal ball..."
