To Remedy

You gave me confidence,

You gave me courage

To try again...

To ride again

With the wind, like when I was a child.

There were many horses throughout the years,

But none that measured up to you.

I could trust you, Remedy.

Your willingness and your heart...

Is what set you apart.

On your back, I became one with you.

We defied gravity.

We broke the time barrier...

Or so it seemed.

You were not the fastest.

You were not the biggest.

You were just the best.

You carried small children

On your back for me.

You taught Cowboy Jim

How to ride.

Then you were a gift to me.

We taught each other.

But, nothing lasts forever.

Now, when I am leaving for a show

Or a race...

You still run up and down the fence

Begging me to take you along.

It does not seem fair

That you were the one who was injured.

I'm telling you, Remedy...

That one day you and I

Will race the shooting stars.

We will ride the wind,

Running behind the clouds.

Your knees will not hurt anymore,

And neither will my back.

I have heard some say

That they would never ride a mare.

Well, they were just not blessed...

They were not lucky enough

To have ridden you.

Wolfycat.

Although I’ve never ridden

Although I've never ridden [except for a few lessons to 'show willing' with my small daughters] your enthusiasm is infectious and makes me wish I'd persevered more! It's a lovely tribute and reads like an ecstatic ride. Bravo Mike

She remains special...

Hello Mike, Thanks very much for reading my work and for commenting. It makes me happy that you caught my vision! We still have her. She is the head mare around here and is in foal, by my stallion. I cannot wait.. Wolfycat
