Winter Oaks

The undressed oaks of winter

Stretch their fingers to the sky,

Contemplating autumn's end

And sharing silent wintry cries.

Brown leaves have faded to the ground

And back again to dust,

Breaking underneath my feet

Under the frosty crust.

They stand helpless in the bitter cold,

Some bent from ancient storms,

Keeping watch in winter's twilight,

These magestic, dormant forms.

Like the oaks, I now abide

In a haunting, cold embrace.

I, also, long for spring to come

And show its warm, bright face.

I can see the oaks

I like the imagery, especially in the first and third verses. Like the oaks, I now abide In a haunting, cold embrace. I, also, long for spring to come, And show its warm, bright face. This is my kind of poetry. You have captured the theme beautifully. I cant see any forced rhymes and it flows really well. Nice work! Good to see you! Thanks...

Thanks so much, Kaz. It is nice to be here. I was out feeding the horses and dealing with the winter blues. There are hundreds of oaks back here. They gave me...almost a desolate feeling...all bare and stuff. The scene almost reminded me of a graveyard. Thanks again for reading my work and for leaving me a comment! Wolfy.

The trees

Here are completely bare and desolate too in this freezing weather. A graveyard is a good description. Nature in stasis waiting for Spring. Kaz It's impossible to smile on the outside without feeling better on the inside.

This is when we know

and we can say - We are poets! The beauty for me in this, Wolfy, is it's uncomplicated honesty. Mark

Thanks, Mark...

Mark, Thanks for your comment! Our lowest points are at times the most creative. When everything is going great...sometimes it can be difficult to write anything... But, ah...those blue days. I am learning to cherish them. Thanks to all who stopped here to read and comment! Thanks again, Mark. Wolfy.

Lovely flowing rhythmic

Lovely flowing rhythmic language with evocative descriptive passages. The rhymes are mercifully unforced and aid the pattern of the piece. I'm totally with you on yearning for spring [see my piece Seeking Spring if you're curious] Great stuff Mike
