I Am Me

Let me tell you what happened to me.
There was this woman,
and I thought, "it'll never happen...
..for I am me.

Oh she was a beautiful woman.
As she floated into the room,
our eyes met and introduced themselves.
this can't be happening.....for I am me.

She blinked at me,
her eyelids closed and opened,
like a pair of butterfly wings...resting on a branch,
but I'm just me.

She was blonde, but not an overdone blonde,
She was natural...her hair shimmered in the light,
her lips began to part to speak...
..and I was happy that I am me!

I saw for the first time her heavenly smile,
it was warm and friendly...
..like a cozy fire that you cannot take your eyes off of.
And I am me.

Out of every man in the room, she gazed at me,
and her smile was heavenly,  mysterious...like the Mona Lisa,
as if she knew a secret....
maybe about me?

 Finally, she spoke.
Her voice, and the way she chose her words,
had the cadence of a slow jazz band...
..I'm really glad I am me.

She then asked my name and I told her,
but she then frowned and said,
"Oh...I thought you were someone else."
Then I remembered, I'm just me.

 She retreived her gaze,
and seemed to shrink into another world...
..and then she turned and floated away.
And I'm still me.

Oh...if I coul be that other person,
But, I can't, come to think of it...
..she had a flaw or two herself.
And I am me.

 Anyway, I'll just keep searching,
I cannot be someone else!
It was just a brief encounter, I'll be just fine,
'cause I am me.

Great Storytelling

Here. The repetition drives the story gently forward. Wishful thinking? Or self reflection? Either way I liked this . Kaz x It's impossible to smile on the outside without feeling better on the inside.

I Am Me

Doc, I enjoyed this one. The repetition was an asset to this piece! _____________________________ To write a touching poem, you must gently stir the soul, if it brings forth tears or smiles, then the story was beautifully told. ________Janice Pearce_________

I am me

I can relate also. I like the theme staying true to yourself and the awesome images very descriptive. i can still see her backing off and you thinking maybe i will change me for her, but ultimately letting it/her go. but still wondering what it would have been like. This is great i see only one oversight: could instead of coul Respectfully Yours, Barbara

Ah Doc

A thousand such encounters and still, I am just me. I can relate to this a lot. All any of us can be is ourselves and accept it and if others can't, so be it. Well done sir. Great write, great story and excellent presentation. Respectfully, Rett: "For all you Scrooges who don't like Santa Claus or the true meaning of Christmas, BAH HUMBUG!
