virtue has descended

Sirens scream

cries of divestiture

in the wake of the moon

upon an ocean of displaced serenity

Ripples murmur

hints of declination

along the shimmering surface

of broken virtue and shattered perfection

Clouds collect

memories with ambiguity

beneath a spuriously woven shawl

from an inferential skein of veracity

Beauty falls

plunging towards infinity

possessing that incontestable form of elegance

by which only angels are appraised

Only fallen angels?

They say Lucifer was the most beautiful and beloved and although I don't subscribe much to Christian mythology there is some potent symbolism in this trilogy you have just posted. You are in the realm of Hecate, dark and disturbing but utterly necessary and beautiful. Psychosis is the only resort from dreamlessness. Great stuff. cheers, Jess

this is one of those pieces

that nearly wrote itself. Although I was raised strictly Catholic, my faith now rests in very different angles and curves of the world. If any part of that religion lingers with me now, it is the mythology regarding angels - most especially the fallen. Thank you for your insight, Jess. Even I am now delving more deeply into the undercurrents beneath this poem. ~ Ronda

An exquisitely crafted

An exquisitely crafted piece. The construction - and the resultant rhythm - makes the reading a joy [I always read out loud]. Plus you made me think and enjoy the process. Another 5 from me. reading out loud

is something that I usually avoid at all costs, even with my own work. I prefer the voice inside my head to the one that my ears actually hear. I'm glad you enjoyed. Thank you again, Mike. ~ Ronda

Are fallen angels elegant?

This is a really impressive poem Rhonda and i liked its form and diverse imagery very much. Two of the images you used did not quite gel with me but that may simply be because of my own predispositions. In the third verse bold clouds and skeins hold liquid and so continue a watery theme but i did not quite completely associate the use of the shawl with this so readily. In the last verse i suppose i have never really considered angels elegant, since elegance for me suggests a cultivated style of dress and movement, whereas i thought of an image of an angel as one of an uncontrived ethereal beauty which, in the case of a fallen angel, might become hard and lose that ethereal component. Not that i have met any angels elegant or otherwise recently of course..lol. Keith

Thanks, Keith

Skeins in this reference refer to skeins of yarn, if that helps. That is where the shawl fits. An angel cast from heaven or losing the use of its wings appeals to me as sadness and painful beauty. Thank you for reading and your insight. Good to know you haven't met any angels recently as well. ;) ~ Ronda

A good yarn

OK Ronda, thanks for reminding me of this...i should really have remembered skeins of yarn!.....may be just illustrates that i know more about wine and its containment than yarn and its spinning....lol...will let you know if any elegant angels do come to call.Keith

If asked, I would have to admit that this is secretly one of my own favorites. It just seemed to write itself. x~ Ronda
