SEEDS
SEEDS
You may observe
some strange disturbance
in deep soil
as shoots and roots emerge
from buried seed
You may regret
the time of planting
the season, time of year
or mayhap meteorological conditions
may blunt your well-honed spade
You may fear
that green and spreading growth
invading, crowding in
to purloin all your picnic space
when you're within
If so,
you may remove your seed
secrete it in
a dark and secret place
and choose
a proper place for each
for each a proper time.
Time
time to ruminate in dappled shade
beneath the short-shorn weeping cherry
safe screened on the south by a veil of leaves;
time to cobble thoughts
lurching like befuddled bark-bugs
along the strident sticky-ringed bars;
clear time among the clean wind-gouged tors
high above mist-swaddled dales to consider:
Yes, time to consider,
time to regard.
Regard the kernel,
hard and clean:
take care
lest you catch an eye on a thought
or find your hand a brain
when touch is what you would.
Regard the kernel:
a what-could-be
of hope and doubt.
Consider the kernel:
as springs the shoot
so should we.
