After I'm gone...

Prop me in a corner

at least I'll feel your smile.

Put me on a shelf

and dust me off sometimes.

Drop me in the closet

where my life would be your smell,

carry me in your pocket

next to your wishing well.

I'd be there when you are witty

I could feel any tears you cry,

You could hold my heart forever,

for ever since you...

it wasn't mine.

wow Richard!

this is very beautiful & as I haven't cried in a long time, it's kind of set me off. but that's okay :) other than its obvious beauty, it's written well. the flow is wonderful, like water. I love this write of yours & it goes on my list. one thing... 'every' I assume it's to be 'ever'? kudos, my talented friend.

Blistered-pen...

I thank you for your kind words... this was one of the first poems I had submitted here and I decided to clean it up a bit... ever and every... you are so right... the bad thing is that my old country self says it like that... shame shame... lol thank you for pointing it out... you don't know how many times I have read that and not noticed it... thanks Richard

Now I know good and well I commented on this a little while ago.

*sigh* guess I didn't hit post after preview. All I can say is awesome sir! Well written and very telling. You could hold my heart forever, for ever since you… it wasn’t mine. My favorite lines although I love the rest also. another interesting thing is there was a movie with Bob Hope where his wife had him stuffed when he died and carried him everywhere she went. Vacations in Europe etc. It was funny, but always made me wonder what if... Respectfully, Rett: "The people of America must really like idiots, look at EVERYONE in Washington." Rett

Hi Richard,

I like the simple, clear language you use to express a moving idea. I particularly enjoyed the lines 'Prop me in a corner' and 'dust me off sometimes'. Best wishes, Robert.
