Posse for Helen

This very night the posse did ride

it was the night too make good

on a towns word of warning

against any further violence

it was promised him that

if she was so much as pushed

the town would no longer

consider his drunken excuses

so the posse was gathered

and Dan the husband of Helen

was the prize to be hunted

this time the scars and bruises

where too much to witness

and there had to be some

frontier justice for all the

preacher could do to make

Dan pray and stay away

from the booze was in not

the friends at the ranch gave

Dan the ease up speech

as friends often do for each other

but Dan was just too stubborn

so tonight the posse rides

and it will  ride until morning

with Dan dragged right behind

And the cops can't do much.

It's downright un-christian of me (thankfully I am not a christian) but I love to hear of bloody vengeance against perpetrators. Read the novels of Andrew Vachss if you like it too. Now here's a thing, I am not nit picking here, I know you aren't the worlds best speller, but pay attention to the difference between to and too, it makes a big change in sound and meaning. I pasted this into Word and formatted it as prose and no, it works better as verse. cheers, Jess wishing all a Salubrious Solstice

Nice Take

What I have found is that domestic violence is almost a zero tolerance policy compared to the way it used to be. I do like this take on the theme of dispensing justice to the abuser and helping the victim. My only concerns are using " too " instead of " to " ( maybe intentional ? ), and the structure. I am by no means a literary critic, ( amateur poet with two poems published )the flow was a little off by the way it is presented on the page. Otherwise a great write.

You might break it

after > for all. And work from there continuing in verses. In this area the woman is always favoured. Which has it's own downside. Lots of guys have been left out in the cold unfairly and illigally. It is a sort of favoritism and discrimination nobody really considers around here but ya can't fight with the fuzz they just call in more so guys just leave totally dejected with no place to go most of the time this happens.

There is a give and take training in law enforcement these days

the difference I look to see is the what was done on the way to intervene? The preacher (how personal is that?)folks dealing with their impulse can sometimes be released from the grip of aggresion, dealing with the triggers...that is tricky. So in the picture he gets dragged by a horse for a few hours. The same company that gave him a chance at intervention. yea true

it's like being honest and sincere will prolly get ya out of a ticket but trying to "get out of it" will get ya one. Most cops around here will stay away from a neurotic woman screaming the truth but a guy to scream gets dragged :-(
