Focus

Trying to stay focused,

I attempt a passive attitude.

But, behind these eyes

the fire is burning high,

trying not to become used.

If I can keep the lid on slightly,

let some steam escape the crack,

keep the fire inside, for me and mine,

and focus on what I have.

A little something less than normal,

not quite special or unique,

just trying to keep a lid on things,

and keep me..controlling me.

eek again

I so often get poems completely wrong here I have stopped being embarrassed about it. It's true, once we release our work to others it gains a life of its own (if its good). It's also a major cause of writers block, when we try to control it too much. Your poem could be taught in schools for all the underlying meanings, whether you intended them or not. cheers, Jess wishing you a Salubrious Solstice
