HOLDING ON

HOLD ON

What's so precious
you hold on so?
so terrible
you cannot tell?

Hold back,
if you must,
though I would share the pain
as well ask my portion of the joy.

Hold back,
if you need,
though I would never claim
a greater part than you would give.

Hold back,
if you fear,
though I am often told
a lonely hurt hurts more alone.

Hold back,
if holding holds you still;
Hold back,
though holding's holding still;

Hold back,
and while you're holding on,
hold on to me,
and I'll hold on.

Sorry about the erratic

Sorry about the erratic spacing, it's nothing like the original! - I've no idea how to correct it because I'm not [sadly] computer literate. Mike photo: me, late 20s / early 30s - with 'face furniture version 1'

It's the site....

format Mike. I have the same problem with long lines, they wrap too soon, but maybe Andrew can fix that or offer a solution. Holding on is something I do with a lost love still, though I choose no longer to remain in touch. Read my Strange Love for an idea of which I speak. I left her a spiritual path to remember me. It simply hurt too much to go on otherwise! The poem speaks well to holding on and the pain associated with it. Have a good holiday my poet friend. :) Patrick/AO

I’ve discovered at least

I've discovered at least some of the answer - copy Word docs to notepad first! I'll try out of my [few] shaped poems tomorrow. Mike photo: me, late 20s / early 30s - with 'face furniture version 1'

I think this is a honest

I think this is a honest look at relationships. There is a ping-pong quality to the words that reflects real-life feelings.
