WORDS

WORDS

In mountain meres in Mexico
swims the axolotl:
a tragic beast forever doomed
to live eternal youth
never to proudly strut the swampy shore
as salamander, fiery and full-grown

Such a word is affection,
mothered in friendship, fathered in love.
A Peter Pan of words, capable of growth
yet tending to remain a safe and carefree child   Connection needs caution, I grant you [as a hand in a metaphor’s glove]: one could drown in the pool of affection

for a lack of the sweet air of love.

hummm

and oh the beauty of the axolotl...and the beauty of a true metaphor...and they say all thoughts have been thunk...im not so sure that many would equate this beautiful creature to Peter Pan of all things!!! very very intriuging my friend...my eyebrows remain raised...such things are not accidental.... <3 Emarie

Thank you. I like amphibia -

Thank you. I like amphibia - even as a child I had a pet toad who lived in one of moss-lined pockets, much to my mother's disgust! Glad you like it ... though I'm not happy about the last stanza. It says what I mean, but doesn't [I think] fit with the rest of the poem. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
