NOSEGAY

NOSEGAY

My memory weaves a nosegay of you,
emotions meshed, tendril tight,
sunlight circled.

I might make you violets
though you neither shrank nor hid.
Roses would not fit
since your colours never clamoured.
You were too lightly wicked for lilies
too fragile for foxgloves
and could weather the wilder winds
more strongly than poppy’s petals.

I could celebrate your subtle shapes
as esoteric ornamental orchids
or sing of the sense-abducting scent
of lavender and lilies-of-the-valley.
All true, all you … but that would leave wanting
the delicate dance of sweet-peas on the vine
and the sheer exuberance you shared
with pansies and harlequin flowers.

Moonlight haloed,
emotions meshed, tendril tight,
I thread a fragrant bouquet of you.

I, The Tiger Lilly...

"All true, all you … but that would leave wanting" a sweetly penned line. to a flower we are forever compared but for me this doesn't seem to be repetitive. "Nosegay" left its unique imprint...well done poet!!! <3 Emarie

Holy Mackeral Mike

This one was terrific also. I'm beginning to think we could keep a merry go round of flower talk going for weeks. This was really beautiful in execution and subtlety. Thank you for linking me to it! I have a strange one where I attempted to tell the story of the origin of the rose with a three part poem called "The Sword and the Rose" but I think it might just be gilding the Lily a bit so won't keep the flower link going here. I thank you for the wonderfully different looks at flowers and how they apply to people. Simply beautiful. Respectfully, Rett: "God made an idiot for practice, then he made a school board." Thanks, Rett, yep … I

Thanks, Rett, yep ... I could find at least two other flower poems; too much, I agree - though I'll put you on my buddy list so I don't miss your work in future. Mike "not all matterings of mind equal one violet" ~ e e cummings ~
