Immigration Nation

Give me your huddled massesYearning to breathe free... But, they better notTake away my jobFrom me This perceptionIs based onA misconception Usually they only takeThe jobs thatWe forsake Before starting our witch huntsWe should remember thatWe were immigrants once We should forgetOur thoughts of hateA land of manyMakes us great Living inThe land of the freeWe should appreciateOur diversity

i don't know

As always Michael you fire up my mind lol I suppose it is way too late but if I could have back in the 1960s I know I would have voted for isolationism - me bad I know. I think not all and probably most do not want freedom but rather to rip us off in their flight from their dislike for their homelands. Some I would give my bed to for the interum. It's a nasty problem. How do ya be fair? On one note; I despise the idea of getting mail that needs to be written in 25 langusges or trying to find my way through a manuel that is 25 times more thick than I need it - just a pet peeve lol

As always Mark, thank you

As always Mark, thank you for your comments. While I'm all for diversity, I do think that the people who come here should learn English. English is the cornerstone of our democratic system, and I do worry that if enough people start refusing to learn English, that could jeopardize the very freedoms that they come here seeking. Immigration is one of the most difficult problems that the United States faces today. As you say, how do you be fair? I definitely do not know the answer to that question. Right now, there's plenty of space for more people to come to the United States, but that won't always be the case. If we let everyone who wanted to come to the United States come here, then it definitely wouldn't be as nice as a place to live as it is right now. Thanks, Michael

Ah yes a touchy subject today

I only have opinions here and we all know that everyone has one and what there are like But But I think if they wish to come and can get here let them come but for staying there should be requirement sticker then just arriving and we should not Have too set up camp for them A sponsoner ship program maybe A lock down on free entry and short prior stay then send them home if they dont measure up to makeing it on their own for we have to many Of wich I am one on welfare or Soc Sec which I may or may have not erned. as to cheap labor ya get what you pay for or at least one time a long time ago you did eg work force today under paid over worked why should we here have to compete with those sneaking in and then being allowed to dictate languae changes they didn't change it for my grandparents touchy subject one of great debate reversal is so much harder then fore seeing the problems and then allow them to take place hence the birth of a nation or the loss of one

Michael, a good poem

I don't know. Maybe it is okay where you are, but down here, it's bad. they come in droves and do take jobs. You hear over and over they take the jobs we don't want and that is wrong. They will work them for2-3 dollars an hour or below minimum wage which some won't and other's can't do. They don't want to learn our language or our ways, but want us to learn and accomodate theirs. I even had one tell me, "We are gonna take it back since y'all stole it" to which I answered "Well then, are y'all gonna give Mexico back to Spain and then let them give it back to where they stole it, the natives the Spanish slaughtered for gold and silver"? He just looked like he could kill me and stormed off. I am 100% for immigration and diversity. All 100% that come here legally and not as trespassers are welcome. Providing welfare and free healthcare for those that are here illegally when American citizens can't get it is NOT my idea of diversity. I could go on and on Michael, but it is a major problem in Texas, Arizona, New Mexico and California. I will say this, it is a good, thought provoking poem. Well done. Respectfully, Rett: "If life is a bowl of cherries, why am I in the pits?" Erma Bombeck

To every issue there's always two sides at least.

Thanks! I see the problem, and I guess my poem just touches on one tiny aspect of it. Perhaps my poem is a little too idealistic. Certainly, very soon the Spanish speakers will out number the English speakers, and then we're really going to start having problems. My biggest concern is that they don't have the Democratic ideals that we do, so once they outnumber the English speakers, they could in fact actually take over by using our democratic system, and way frankly I don't see how it could be stopped. Anyway, I wrote the poem to be thought-provoking, so I'm glad you liked it. Sincerely, Michael
