by late spring ...

unwanted seeds,

thus by their awns,

invade to mar

abundant lawns.

(awns: weed seed appendages

useful for their self-locomoting/

-implanting)

Hi Chuck so you are

already preparing your lawn? Wow, that's staying ahead of the game. Please tell me how you find the words. And now I think of green, manipulated, fine manicured and manure - renovations, sweat and what may be my death (hope not)

I Know It Would ...

have been more appropriate to post this in the spring of the year ... but I read a Discover magazine article the other day regarding awns. I was intrigued, to say the least. The seeds move along the surface of the soil in a swimming motion ... and then choose a spot for implanting. Seeds that think for themselves. Now ... I like that! Don't ask me why I do. More regards, Chuck

Seeds that Think

That sounds intriguing Chuck. I never heard that before. Are they genetically produced or is it a natural phenonmenon? Like this poem - its short and does what is says in the title. My best wishes to you. Kaz It's impossible to smile on the outside without feeling better on the inside.

If My Memory's Correct ...

the article focused on wheat seeds as the prime example. And, yes, the seeds appear to have gained their abilities genetically ... as in natural. So far when I've pursued an individual escaping seed, I've been able to outrun it. I imagine in a few more years any one of them will probably manage to stay ahead of me in such a race. Re diet, I avoid processed foods and consume the whole, natural-state edible veggies and seeds. I also avoid cooking. For example, I'll microwave water to boiling, throw in whole seeds like that of wheat, rye, oat, rice, etc., cover the bowl and let sit on the counter till room temperature. Some seeds are hard enough that I'll go through two or three boiling-water soakings just to get them to the point they're chewable without risk of damaging tooth enamel and/or structure. Needless to say, I get my recommended dietary fiber---no problem in that respect. How fascinating nature is! Regards, Chuck

one gift from God

I am glad to know the wheat is on the run looking for a place to plant. And Psyllium is a wonderful therapy for a need for moving a bit better. Seed ladened breads are my favorite seeds and I need to be sure about my bread when I go to market as the pre-sliced in a package is the least expensive and very expensive.
